Domination speaks on 50 Cent, Eminem, and G-Unit

By Mikey T The Movie
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Not too many people know who Domination is, unless they have a few of the "Beef" DVDs. For those who do know him from that series, they know Domination is no fan of 50 Cent. Before 50 Cent made it big, Domination and Bang 'Em Smurf were major parts of G-Unit Records and they helped 50 Cent start his previous label, Full Clip.

The future appeared to be bright for Domination with 50 Cent landing the major deal with Eminem and Dr. Dre. But, it just was not meant to be. By the time G-Unit made it big, Domination and Bang 'Em Smurf were out and Young Buck and The Game were in. Despite not blowing up then, Domination is still happy with where he's at.

Recently, I was able to chop it up with Domination for an exclusive interview with Hip Hop Vibe. The video can be viewed below.

Hottie of the Week: iKandy

By Lady Killa
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

iKandy, birth name Tuyakula Napandula Musheko, was born and raised in the South African city of Namibia, Windhoek. Growing up in a household with three other children, young Tuyakula wanted to stick out.

At school, she did just that, as she attened primarily white schools. Being exposed to so many cultures at such a young age has taught iKandy to be accepting to all types of people. As a child, and even to this day, a love for television has given iKandy a vivid imagination.

Her wide imagination is what led her into the world of modeling. When she came of age, iKandy's mother allowed her to participate in mini fashion shows and the rest is history. Recently, Hip Hop Vibe caught up with iKandy and landed the exclusive interview, thus making her the first Hottie of the Week.

1. Q. Exactly what has inspired you to become a model?

    A. I fell in love with fashion at a young age but I only had an eye for it and my designing skills were not my strongest point. Since I was 12years old people have been suggesting I become one because I had the height and looks but I was too much of a tomboy. As I grew older I came to appreciate it and was highly attracted to that form of art.

2. Q. Which models inspired you growing up?
    A. I was inspired by Liya Kadebe due to the fact that she is a fellow African model that had made it far in the industry. Tyra Banks because she was a curvy model just like I am and taught me to embrace them. Heide Klum because I have never seen anybody more humble in the midst of such an industry of people who to me seem to sell their soul to the devil.

3. Q. How long have you been in the business yourself?
    A. I have been in the industry since grade 8(2004) doing mini fashion shows and promotions.

4. Q. Have you run into any negativity while pursuing your dream?

    A. Yes. As normal girls do you become insecure about your body growing up so because you fell that you are never as pretty or as thin as the next girl. I finally grew out of it.

5. Q. Do you feel as if you have an advantage over American models?
    A. I feel the only way I have an advantage to American girls is that the modeling industry here is not as congested but other than that I feel they have a better chance of making it big and landing bigger accounts.

6. Q. Is there any pressure on you, being a model of color in a profession dominated by white women?
    A. Yes. One would think because this is Africa the discrimination wouldn’t be as bad against black models but the girls that land the good, international deals are usually white or mixed. You would be able to count the all black girls on one hand.

7. Q. How do you plan to leave your mark on the modeling industry?
    A. Despite the times that I might have to go the extra mile for true art I would like to be known as the model that truly embraced their natural beauty. I would like to let women experience the feeling of true beauty which in my opinion comes from appreciating what God gave you. And from that you gain confidence and with confidence anything is possible.

8. Q. How many gigs have you landed since being in the business?

    A. More then I can remember but all for fun and nothing really major.

9. Q. In the future, do you plan to branch out of modeling to also possibly do television and film?
    A. Yes if I’m fortunate enough to find an undiscovered talent that allows me to branch out into television and film then I would without a doubt.

10. Q. What are some of your interests outside of modeling?

      A. MUSIC, MUSIC and more MUSIC… Keeps me alive.

11. Q. What is your favorite television program, if any?
      A. 90210 ;)

12. Q. Where do you see yourself ten years from now?

      A. I would love to be a mother by then and a CEO of a bank and still headed on up.

13. Q. Once you do make it big, do you see yourself mentoring young models, such as yourself?

      A. Most defiantly. I have noticed a lot of people that made it far forget how it was when you still had nothing so id like to share my experiences if I ever make it big to help young models learn from them and help any other way I can at that stage.

14. Q. More than anyone else, who do you admire in show business, as a whole?

      A. Beyonce Knowless. Not only do I admire this lady but she is the one person I envy. She gets to do what she loves the most and because of that she is able to work hard at it. She is the most hardworking lady in show business in my opinion and I admire that.

15. Q. Where can people interested in you see more photos of you?
      A.  Hip Hop Vibe Social network. Will post more pictures with time.

Black Rob sounds off on Diddy

The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

When he created Bad Boy Records, Diddy wanted to start a legacy that would rival the one created across town by Russell Simmons with Def Jam. Launched ten years after Def Jam, it appeared as if Diddy, then known as Puff Daddy, was on the fast track. The first three years of Bad Boy Records were filled with happiness, then The Notorious B.I.G. was brutally murdered on the streets of Los Angeles.

Even after the death of Biggie, Bad Boy Records has still made tremendous profit, but none of the artists since have had staying power. Following Biggie’s death, Mase was thrown into the limelight and he decided to preach. Shyne was then brought in to fill the void of Mase, but the club incident cost Shyne his career and ten years of his life. There have been many other rappers brought in with each new star and they all have issues with Diddy.

Black Rob has become the latest former act of Bad Boy Records to sound off on Diddy. He said things with Diddy were shaky from the beginning, but he trusted the Bad Boy CEO. That is something he will never do again. During his time in prison, Black Rob said he did not even receive a phone call, let alone a visit from Diddy. Not only did Diddy not reach out to him while he was in prison, but he also stole G. Dep from him and kept all the credit.

Diddy has denied all the allegations made by Black Rob, but Rob says the proof is out there and there is nothing Diddy can do to deny it.

Happier Days in Bad Boy history. Black Rob – “Woah.”

Jay-Z strikes a deal with the New York Yankees

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

The president of hip hop is known for making deals well outside of the hip hop world and the entertainment community. In 1999, Jay-Z was the biggest rapper on the planet and he capitalized off his popularity with Rocawear. After creating the clothing line, Jay-Z made numerous other deals with other people for various products.

In 2005, Jay-Z, at the time retired from hip hop music, purchased part of the New Jersey Nets’ franchise and became the face of the team. While only being a minority owner of the team, Jay-Z decided to move the franchise back to New York City in his native borough of Brooklyn. The move will be completed sometime next year, but Jay-Z is “on to the next one.”

Outside of hip hop, Jay-Z is probably best-known for the New Jersey Nets and his clothing business ventures. Having grown up a New York Yankees’ fan, Jay-Z has always wanted to do something for his team. Recently, a new business deal has given him this opportunity and he plans to strike on it.

Jay-Z and the New York Yankees have teamed up for a Limited Edition New York Yankees’ clothing line. The merchandise will go on sale on August 30 and will end on September 14. In his chart-topping New York anthem, “Empire State of Mind,” Jay-Z boasted of how he can make the New York Yankees’ cap more famous than a New York Yankee can.

Now, the franchise is giving him the chance to prove it.

Kanye West plans to release a New Track each week

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Making up for lost time, Kanye West plans to get back in where he fits in the most. Before his outrageous outburst last September, Kanye was trying to push his career to new heights. But, sometimes the best way to comeback is to go away. Out of the limelight for ten months, people appreciated Kanye West even more when he returned to the game.

Earlier this month, Kanye West returned with his first batch of new material since his R&B effort, 808s & Heartbreak. Quickly, his new single, “Power,” has taken over radio stations and music video outlets across the nation. It seems as if nothing has changed since last year, when people were still blasting music off 808s & Heartbreak.

With “Power” dominating the hip hop scene, Kanye West is already making plans to keep himself out there. Each week, a new track from West will be released. Currently, it is unclear if these tracks are actually coming from his new album or if they are simply new tracks. Despite the heavy promotion, Kanye West is putting out for his new album; it still does not have a title.

Kanye West plans to put his album out sometime in November.

50 Cent wants Mims off Capitol/EMI

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Following his recent signing to EMI Records, 50 Cent is hoping to rebuild his G-Unit empire, piece by piece. Clearly, 50 Cent and G-Unit Records is the biggest name EMI has had since the days of MC Hammer. Now the biggest fish in the pond again, 50 Cent wants things to go his way or he will raise hell. It has been no secret that 50 Cent is to Mims’ biggest fan.

In 2007, many people felt as if Mims could become the next big thing out of New York City. His movement was compared to 50 Cent’s from a few years earlier. When 50 Cent was asked about the comparisons, he said Mims would not make it. Months later, multiple websites reported news about Mims talking reckless about 50 Cent.

Right before 50 Cent addressed the issue, Mims came out to quickly retract his statement. This did a lot to bolster 50 Cent’s confidence as the top dog in the game. But, Mims was labeled a punk by many hip hop websites. While Mims often says he is a big fan of 50 Cent, he is known to associate with Fat Joe and Rick Ross.

By now, it is no secret about 50 Cent despising both rappers with a passion. Early in his career, 50 Cent said anyone who associated with his rivals were dissing him. In 2009, when Mims allowed Rick Ross to remix his “Life as a Star” track, 50 Cent issued a warning to Mims. Despite the warning, Mims continued to do what he does.

50 Cent is still likely watching and will probably do what he can to get Mims off the label. A new album from 50 Cent is expected to be released before the end of this year.

Rick Ross name-drops Slim Thug and beef rumors rise

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Still basking in the success of his latest album, Rick Ross has taken his boss persona a step father and has now promoted himself to “King Boss.” For years, Slim Thug, who has actually been in the spotlight longer than Rick Ross, has been calling himself the boss. His debut single, back in 2005 was actually called “Like a Boss.” Ross would counter in 2008 with his T-Pain assisted single, “The Boss.”

During their time in the game, it has appeared as if Rick Ross and Slim Thug get along relatively well. The two rappers have yet to collaborate on a major track, but have attended many of the same events. When they meet up, Rick Ross and Slim Thug appear to get along. Slim Thug even spoke on Rick Ross’ feud with 50 Cent and seemingly sided with Ross. But, this is a different day and a different beef.

To go along with his new alter ego is a new song, “King Boss.” On the song, he seemingly goes at Slim Thug. He speaks of a girl who used to date Slim Thug, but later began sleeping with him, a real boss. After hearing the song, Slim Thug reaches out to Rick Ross on Twitter and asked him why he dropped his name on the track. Wanting to receive a response, Slim Thug will wait before he replies to the track.

Nicki Minaj accepts Irv Gotti’s Lauryn Hill comparison

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Recently, Irv Gotti compared Nicki Minaj to Lauryn Hill and there was plenty of outrage from the hip hop community. While there is no one who will deny the talent that lies within Nicki Minaj, no one is ready to crown her the next Lauryn Hill. Many hip hop critics and fans, alike, say Hill is one of the best performers who ever lived. Nicki Minaj, on the other hand, has not proved herself to be legendary, yet.

Currently, Nicki Minaj is keeping the radio hot with her undying hit single, “Your Love.” In the song, Nicki Minaj sings and raps, but it is clear she has a little bit of assistance from the auto-tune machine. While the song will forever be embedded in most hip hop fans’ memories as the anthem of summer 2010, not many would agree that it rivals the run Lauryn Hill had twelve summers prior.

Nicki Minaj, always one to be different, has decided to go with the unpopular decision. She becomes one of few people outside of the Murder Inc. camp to agree with Irv Gotti on any point of view. While he has been painted as the odd man out in the rap game, Nicki Minaj agrees with him in comparing her to Lauryn Hill. Minaj said she definitely has the talent, but Irv has placed the pressure on her to prove it.

Both Nicki Minaj and Lauryn Hill will be releasing new albums this fall.

T.I. explains why “Swagga Like Us” video never came

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

One year before the “Forever” track, there was another major posse cut that featured the bosses of rap on one track. At the time, T.I. was preparing to take his seat among the other bosses at the top of the game. Having recently received a beat from Kanye West, T.I. sought out to leave his mark on the game. Soon after receiving the beat, T.I. reached out to his friends in the game.

Doing it LL Cool J style, T.I. invited Kanye West, Lil Wayne, and Jay-Z to join him on the track, which ended up becoming a major hit. Featured off his Paper Trail album, it was one of many songs from the album to land in the top ten. Not only was more expected from the single, as far as performances, but a music video was promised.

T.I. had told fans a video would likely come before the end of 2008, but when 2009 came and went and T.I. went behind bars, nothing more was said. Now in full swing promoting his latest album, King Uncaged, T.I. decided to break his silence on the “Swagga Like Us” video. While it is great to unite the top rappers in the game on a track, it is hard to have them all together.

Recently, the Atlanta rapper admitted a theme for the video had been chosen. However, when it came time to do a video, the schedules of Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Lil Wayne would not agree long enough for a proper video to be filmed. However, multiple fan videos were made for the single featuring clips from their previous videos.

Beanie Sigel re-ignites Jay-Z feud, brings Kanye West in

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Last fall, Beanie Sigel discussed the state of Roc-A-Fella Records and his undying support for the man who helped him into the game, Jay-Z. Following the September interview, Beanie Sigel released a track dissing Jay-Z. Initially, he stated this was not a free pass for rappers to begin sounding off on his former mentor. However, only a few months later, he brought 50 Cent into his feud with Jay-Z.

Following five months of disses, the most Beanie Sigel got was an offer of peace from Memphis Bleek, which he soundly rejected. Beanie Sigel had been credited as one of the most-respected rappers in the game until he sounded off on Jay-Z. In the time since he went at Jay-Z, Beans has also dissed Lil Wayne, T.I., and Drake. In a short span, he has lost all of his credibility and most of his fanbase.

Beanie Sigel said he felt The Blueprint 3, after listening to it, had some hidden disses, which were aimed at him and other members of the Roc. This was his initial basis for the feud and he feels “Haters,” the song by Jay-Z featuring Kanye West, was one of the many disses aimed at him. Only one year following the release of the song, Beanie Sigel has responded and he is not holding anything back.

On the song, Beanie Sigel continues his assault against Jay-Z over the “Haters” beat. Kanye West is not spared on the track, either. He takes multiple shots at his sexuality on the song, including the way he dresses. In the song, Kanye West is labeled “Ye Queeeeeer.” The song is likely to warrant yet another non-response from anyone from the Roc Nation camp.

Drake writes a letter to Aaliyah

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

The age of Drake is sometime after Aaliyah and her run, but the Canadian-born rapper was still touched by her music. While he was working on Thank Me Later, Drake talked about the people who helped him hone his skills. Among the influences of his style, Drake listed Aalyah. For his debut album, Drake had plans of channeling stars of years passed, recruiting Sade, among others.

However, due to his newness, Drake was turned down by Sade, and a few others. One collaboration Drake refused to let pass was one with Aaliyah. Saddened because they could never actually record together, Drake sampled her for his “Unforgettable” track with Young Jeezy. Since his album came out earlier this summer, the song has been getting a lot of play.

Most fans who listen to Drake probably do not realize who the voice on “Unforgettable” belongs to. But, with Wednesday being the nine year anniversary of her death, hip hop heads across the world are dishing out the facts. Not forgetting where he came from, Drake wrote a letter to the original princess of hip hop and R&B.

In the letter, Drake mentions how he has yet to truly lose someone close to him, but he was heartbroken when he learned of her death. Much like other young boys during this period, Drake had a major crush on Aaliyah and it always hurts to lose someone like that. Concluding the letter, the Young Money rapper says the world will forever mourn and never forget Aalyiah.

The official video of“Rock the Boat” 2001, the final video to feature Aaliyah alive. This was the second single off her third studio album, Aaliyah.

Slick Rick recording a New Album?

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

It appeared as if Slick Rick was done recording some time ago when Chamillionaire pulled him out from the bushes. Working on his second album, Chamillionaire wanted to pull off an unexpected move. Having basically no interest in his new music, he decided to recruit a legend for his album. During the summer of 2007, Chamillionaire featured Slick Rick on his controversial song, “Hip Hop Police.”

Even with a cameo from the legendary Slick Rick, “Hip Hop Police” did not do it for the fans and the record sales showed it. Chamillionaire officially fell into the “one hit wonder” category and Slick Rick returned to the shadows. A few years have passed since his creative verse on an underrated and forgotten song. The only time Slick Rick gets any air play, it is on the throwback hour on the radio.

During the time of his Chamillionaire collaboration, there were rumors of a comeback album from the British rapper. But, the comeback album never came and Slick Rick denied working on a new release. With no major collaborations planned, rumors are beginning to swirl about the rapper possibly putting together a new album to be released before the end of this year. The label status of Slick Rick is unknown.

Ja Rule and the Comeback, the Saga Continues

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Three years ago, Ja Rule convinced the world he could return to the beast form he was in during the beginning of the 21st century. Having released an album each year since his 1999 debut, Rule was knocked off his throne by 50 Cent. But, karma came back to bite the G-Unit general in a major way as he was battling Fat Joe, Cam’ron, and Jadakiss all at one time. It appeared as if it was as good of a time as any for Ja Rule to battle his way back into the game.

Due to circumstances with Universal Records, the Ja Rule comeback did not happen. The label was unwilling to promote his music, so they let shelved his album. In order to properly advance his career, Ja Rule released the album for free last summer. Three years have passed since Ja Rule planned his comeback and the game has evolved. Lil Wayne, a collaborator of Ja Rule’s, was rising to the top then, now he and his crew share the top.

Despite all the bad luck Ja Rule has run into with his music, he is still confident he can give the people what they want. Treating 2010 as if it is 2000, Ja Rule plans to over saturate the game. He has plans for a reality show, a new studio album, and a compilation album to support his new movement. Aside from being the flagship artist of Murder Inc. Records, Ja Rule is also the boss of his own Mpire Records.

While Ja Rule remains confident in his abilities, there are plenty of supporters who have heard his big talk and it is coming a little bit too late. Rule was in the game for five years and released an album each year. However, six years have passed since his last release. Had the comeback been staged in 2007, Rule promoting a new album may not come off as such a joke. Again, though, due to circumstances, there is no real reason to believe he is going to return.

The “new album” is currently set for a November release date.

The Downfall of 50 Cent

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Obviously, it is not 2003 anymore. Recently, the top hip hop earners were revealed by Forbes magazine. In recent years, the big three have been Jay-Z, Diddy, and 50 Cent. Many were ready to place 50 Cent on the top of the list. Actually, 50 Cent, himself, was ready to move to the top of the list.

The reason 50 Cent made it to the top was because of his underdog persona. His primary rival was Ja Rule, who often boasted of bedding multiple women and making money. The cockiness, along with the frequent singing, of Ja Rule made 50's job easy. Most of the hip hop community jumped behind David as he took on Goliath.

This was done with beats from Dr. Dre and rhymes from Eminem and the summer belonged to 50 Cent. Because he had never been in this situation before, 50 Cent made the most of it. He promised to take his homeboys out of the hood and turn them into stars. Jimmy Iovine, the head of Interscope Records, took advantage of 50 Cent's popularity and granted him G-Unit Records.

Now the head of his own label, 50 Cent quickly put his friends from Queens on. Not only did he land record deals for him longtime friends, but he also created his own clothing line. Throughout the year of 2003, 50 Cent and his crew dominated radio and clothing. 50 Cent had built his empire on the downfall of Irv Gotti and Murder Inc. Records. With one move, he took Ja Rule's position as the most popular rapper and the position of Irv Gotti as the top hip hop record executive. But, when it was time to create a concept for his second album, 50 Cent was lost.

Meanwhile, Ja Rule was plotting his comeback. In 2003, it did not seem like it, but Ja Rule has a lot of friends within the industry. Due to his position, he rarely called upon them, but he had to in 2004. Fat Joe had really hit it off with both Irv Gotti and Rule years before and Jadakiss was always close to Ja Rule. In 2004, both Fat Joe and Jadakiss had big hits and Ja Rule was in need of one. When Ja Rule called upon them to create the next anthem, they quickly hit back and the result was the hit single, "New York." The song captured airwaves for months and this angered 50 Cent.

Feeling as if hip hop would embrace him again, 50 Cent found a concept for his new album. Since feuding worked with Ja Rule, for The Massacre, 50 Cent decided to target Fat Joe and Jadakiss. "Piggy Bank," a track on the album, dissed Ja Rule, Fat Joe, Jadakiss, Nas, and Mobb Deep. The song warranted responses from all the aritsts, namely Fat Joe and Jadakiss. 50 Cent sold well with his album, but the backlash was on and he was dissed at the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards and Jadakiss was out for blood. The lyrical battle belonged to all of 50 Cent's rivals.

Because he was the leader of G-Unit, 50 Cent expected everyone in his crew to take his side as he decided to take on these rappers. Game, a Compton rapper signed by Dr. Dre, was placed on G-Unit Records as a cross-promotional effort. It was rare to see Game and 50 Cent together, outside of doing promotional work and the two rappers did not talk then. They did not know each other well, but they had undeniable chemistry which showed when their music was released. While they were making music the people loved, Game was having problems following the G-Unit trend and direspecting legends of the game.

When Game refused to join 50 Cent in his beef against Nas, Fat Joe, and Jadakiss, the gloves came off and there was division at Aftermath Entertainment. Following a failed reconciliation, Game went on to record with Fat Joe, Ja Rule, Nas, and Jadakiss, all enemies of 50 Cent. Even when Rick Ross jumped into a beef of his own with 50 Cent, Game assisted him and brought Fat Joe and Ja Rule with him in his crusade against 50 Cent. By the time 50 Cent got to his beef with Rick Ross, the public was tired of hearing it and they backed the underdog in a similar fashion of how he did in Murder Inc.

In the end cockiness and greed is what cost 50 Cent, but he lost more than music, his entire empire is at stake.

ICP member claims Method Man at fault for concert attack

By Mark Thomas
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

At a recent concert festival titled "The Gathering of the Juggalos," Method Man and Tila Tequila were assaulted with bottles, rocks, and many other weapons as they tried to perform. Pictures of Tila have shown her with bruises all over her body, and multiple facial cuts. Method Man was also assaulted, performing onstage with Redman. Video has surfaced of a beer bottle smashing him on the side of the face. Method Man fully intends to take legal action in the matter. Extra credit goes to both Meth and Tila for continuing to perform, even after having been struck with multiple weapons and in some cases, disgusting items.

But now Violent J, of horrorcore rap group Insane Clown Posse, the group most associated with the fans known as 'juggalos,' has come out claiming that Meth is at fault for the attack. He says that the crowd was chanting about "family," a key word in the Juggalo mindset, as they view one another as family, and that Meth then yelled back "F**k family. It's all about hip-hop." Violent J claims that this is what evoked the attacks from the fans, as initially the fan base had only made clear their intent to attack Tila when she arrived on stage. Redman was apparently unharmed.

These attacks were outright despicable. Anyone who attends a concert with their sole intent to harm anyone performing should be punished to the full extent of the law. Let's hope enough video footage can be found from this concert that those culpable are punished to the full extent. Many "Juggalos" can be found on youtube bragging about the harm they caused. I hope they are sent a message that true music fans would never demonstrate such stupidity. Go buy yourself a drink if you are at a festival and don't care for a certain act. Show some human decency.

Shyne may be headed to Cash Money Records

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

The past few years for both Shyne and Cash Money Records have been very hectic. Shyne was poised to become the new face of Bad Boy Records before landing in prison. Cash Money was on top of the Southern hip hop game before internal fighting separated them. Then, Lil Wayne happened.

Ever since Lil Wayne made the unbelievable rise from average rapper to focal point of the game, Cash Money has had more control in the rap game. Last year, after successfully adding rising stars Drake and Nicki Minaj to their roster, the label also signed Bow Wow.

Loaded with stars, Cash Money Records is still looking to expand and have expressed interest in Shyne. The label situation with Shyne has been in question for some time. In 2003, the rapper was released from Bad Boy and signed with Def Jam. Throughout 2004, there were rumors of Shyne heading over to Murder Inc. Records. In 2007, it was rumored that he had actually joined the label, but it was said by Diddy that he was still on Bad Boy Records and Game said he had signed him.

Once the smoke cleared, Shyne said he was a free agent and rumors had him headed to Roc Nation. Jay-Z said he would have been glad to have Shyne, but he did not at the time. More recent rumors have Shyne heading back over to Def Jam. However, now, the rapper has revealed he remains unsigned and is likely to land with Cash Money Records.

Asher Roth's college appearance being scrutinized

by Mark Thomas

A concert in Richmond, Virigina at the VCU college campus featuring rapper Asher Roth and B.o.B. has come under fire by an anti-drug organization.

Asher Roth and B.o.B. are set to hit the stage at the Back to School Jam concert on August 28th at the Siegel Center.

According to Denise Miller, president for the Regional Drug Free Alliance, Asher Roth's beer drinking, fun-loving image, delivers the wrong message to college students.

Miller also expressed disappointment that the rapper's cost $100,000, which the students are paying for.

"Having this artist come to the campus normalizes inappropriate, illegal and unhealthy behaviors," Denise D. Miller, president for the Regional Drug Free Alliance and chairwoman for the Parents Council of Commonwealth Parenting, told the Richmond-Times Dispatch.

According to VCU, the student's Programming Commission chose Asher Roth and B.o.B., who recently notched VMA nominations for his #1 singles "Beautiful Girls" and "Airplanes."

Representatives for VCU are expected to ask Asher Roth to refrain from performing one of his best known songs, "I Love College," due to the song's lyrical content.

Busta Rhymes completes 90% of New Album

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

After being away from the game four years, Busta Rhymes wanted to return with a bang. Busta had originally planned to release two albums in 2009. His long-awaited album finally came in the form of Back on my BS and he planned to also release The Chemo. It was reported by Hip Hop Vibe, last September, that he wanted to release the album in December of 2009.

However, realizing all he would have to do in order to get the album out so soon, Busta Rhymes began delaying the album. Like so many older artists, it had appeared as if Busta was falling out of love with the game. Earlier this year, the New York rapper said he would retire following the release of the album. Having been in the game fourteen years, he was ready to do other things.

Getting into the album, though, Busta Rhymes felt reenergized and ready to put together more music. One of the main reasons he had fallen out of love with the game was because of his falling out with Interscope Records. With the support of Universal Records, Busta Rhymes easily released Back on my BS and has had no trouble with the new album. Initially, he had thought of naming his album, The Chemo, removing the cancer from the game. But, due to a change in content and out of respect for cancer patients, Busta Rhymes has decided to change the title.

Despite not releasing an album last year, Busta Rhymes has been working on his new album since September of last year and with September of 2010 only days away, he is close to completing the album. To be exact, he said the album is 90% complete. Despite being so close to completing the album, Busta Rhymes said he has yet to think of a suitable title for the new release.

G-Unit Records finds a home at EMI Records

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

50 Cent made it painfully clear to Interscope Records of his impending departure three years ago. Known for speaking and retracting, many assumed things would change. As promotion for his fourth studio album, Before I Self Destruct, it appeared as if he may be inclined to stay with the label responsible for making him big.

However, following the lackluster sales of the album, the lowest of his career, 50 Cent made plans to leave. From the start, 50 Cent said G-Unit was going to leave Interscope Records, but hinted at the possibility of him staying. Actually signed to Aftermath as opposed to his own G-Unit label, 50 Cent said he may stay with Dr. Dre. When Dre chose Game over him, though, 50 Cent set his sights on landing over at Def Jam.

The deal between G-Unit and Def Jam was all but done, when it fell apart at the last minute. Speculation says the feud between 50 Cent and Rick Ross kept G-Unit Records from moving to Def Jam. However, 50 Cent plans to expand the G-Unit label to the size of Def Jam and he needs a major label for that task. In the future, there are plans for a G-Unit South label, G-Unit West label, more artists added to the mainstream G-Unit label and a film division. 50 Cent had considering linking with an independent distributor, but after the way he teased his rivals, Cam'ron and Fat Joe, for being indie, he stayed major.

Hoping to have more creative control, 50 Cent moved his entire roster of artists, including Young Buck, over to EMI Records. There were rumors of G-Unit Records moving over to Capitol Records, the biggest division of EMI Records, but 50 Cent soundly shot that rumor down. The executives of EMI, however, will still be laughing their way straight to the bank with 50 Cent and his entire roster under their label.

Album Review: Rick Ross - "Teflon Don"

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Following the release of Deeper Than Rap, Rick Ross made it clear he was here to stay. He said the next album he came out with would be the defining album of his career. Rick Ross was ready to assume his position at the top of the game. No one really took Rick Ross seriously.

With everyone doubting him and taunts from his rivals, 50 Cent and Floyd Mayweather, Ross silently went about his business. At times, he would release public statements. One statement Ross made was that his album would become a classic upon release.

Right as hip hop magazines and other outlets were ready to give up on Rick Ross, he mounted a return to the game with Ne-Yo. Early in the spring of this year, he released his lead single, "Super High." The song was a triumphant return to the game and he proved he was still the boss with Stacey Dash as the lead female in the video. Quickly, the song was met with significant air play and critical acclaim. "Super High" did enough as the lead to help Teflon Don debut number two on the Billboard Hot 200 albums chart.

Upon release, the 11-track opus has been blazing stereos across the United States. All Rick Ross albums are known to make people bounce, but not like this. For this album, Rick Ross went all out, proving his lyrical improvement on his last album was no fluke. While some predicted Ross to take a few steps back, as far as lyrical prowess goes, he took multiple steps forward. From the start of the album, Rick Ross proved he could hold his own against stars, such as Styles P, Jay-Z, Drake, T.I., Jadakiss, and Erykah Badu. With this album, Rick Ross was able to combine all of the strong points of the hip hop community for one great album.

Drake preps New Mixtape and Sophomore Album

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Ever since he landed his record deal, Drake has been working hard to rightfully earn the top spot. Due to his time as an actor on the teen series, "Degrassi," many people wrote Drake off. First, he had to prove he could really rap. After proving it time and time again, Drake has to prove he is going to be around for a while.

Nearly two months after the release of Thank Me Later, Drake is already back in the lab. Not only is he working on a new mixtape, but he is also working on his next album. Drake hopes to get a new mixtape out before the end of the year. The new mixtape will also be used to promote his next album.

Drake has a plan to keep himself out there even with no actual music of his own out. In November, Lil Wayne will be out of prison and Drake will be on his music. Nicki Minaj is preparing for the release of her Alter Ego album and Drake also has vocals on her album, along with the new album from Bow Wow. Then, outside of the Young Money camp, Drake will be collaborating.

Following the collaborations and the music from his next mixtape, Drake will release his second album. A few months ago, Drake spoke on the album and said he would possibly title it Moments. He said it is the moments, as opposed to the legacy, that keep the fans tuned into the artist of the moment.

DMX released from prison after 18 days

The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

For the past two years, it has come as no surprise to hear about rapper DMX going to prison. However, it is rare to hear about DMX being released from prison. After years of promoting the thug image, the thug life finally caught up to him. The Yonkers rapper quickly realized he was not above the law.

Ever since 2008, the most news from DMX is his latest drug charge. The rapper has been in and out of prison in Arizona, the place he went to in order to excape. Before 2008, it was rare to hear about DMX actually paying for the crimes he has committed. But, as time has gone on, it has become regular news.

DMX's most-recent jail stint came from his 2002 reckless driving charge in Los Angeles. The rapper was supposed to spend 90 days in the custody of Los Angeles County. But, after only 18 days behind bars, the rapper has been released. DMX had surrendured in Los Angeles after serving four months of prison in Arizona.

Rick Ross responds to Young Jeezy

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Young Jeezy took it upon himself to remix the current hit by Rick Ross, "B.M.F." A few of the lines on the Jeezy version seemingly take shots at the originator, Rick Ross. Initially, Ross had nothing to say about the track, but his Maybach Music artist, Torch did.

Upon hearing the response from Torch, Young Jeezy denied having any problems with Ross. It was just last year when the two rappers collaborated on a mixtape. The two rappers have been fixtures on the revived Def Jam South for the past four years. A line was still crossed and Rick Ross is on defense.

Rick Ross has responded with a diss record of his own, even after the Young Jeezy retraction, "Summas Mine."

This line, "This motherf**ker's mad that I'm Icey/Talking to a pu**y ni**a, yeah I might be/Let it resonate/First 48/Home of the chopper toters/My paper's straight/I assassinate and employ em all/shi**in on your dogs/I'm just showing off/self-made, you just affiliated, you’re a waterboy, really you entertainment..," may have turned rumors of a Jeezy/Ross showdown into a reality.

Fat Joe offered 100K for live concert broadcast?

by Mark Thomas
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Social networking company Social networking company Xumanii is offering the emcee up at least $100k for the rights to broadcast a live stream of his next performance.

Even though his latest album The Darkside: Volume 1 has had lackluster sales(though critically acclaimed), Xumanii still believes Joe can bring an audience, and is guaranteeing at least 100K in ticket sales if the rapper signs on.

If Joe signs on, Xumanii will stream his concert worldwide, with 'tickets' to view sold at $10 a pop. Xumanii guarantees at least 10,000 viewers, even without the help of a sponsorship, and believes that with a sponsorship that number could double if not even greater.

As of today, Joe has not yet officially signed on for this deal, but it is believed that he will.

Bun B wants to shoot "Trill OG" video with Drake

By Bryan Shaw
Hip Hop Vibe Contributing Writer

Bun B has been a popular name in hip hop ever since his days on the yacht with Jay-Z. He has poured in a few hits and he reunites with Jigga from time-to-time. Recently, he has been working with newcomer, Drake, and the two have bonded. Bun B has vocals on Thank Me Later, the debut album from Drake.

Outside of that small collaboration, Bun B and Drake have teamed up for three songs. Last month, Bun traveled to Canada to open for Drake at the OVO Fest. He had planned to do a video with Drake following the performance. But, due to his high demand, Drake had to be out of town right after the show.

Determined, Bun B still has plans to film a video for all three songs he has recorded with Drake. Bun B wants to create a video for all the songs off Trill OG. Realizing it is easier said than done, Bun B has decided it would be best for him to film as many videos as he could off the album. The song off the album making the most noise is his Drake assisted "Put It Down" and Bun definitely wants a video for it.

Kanye West set to return to MTV Video Music Awards

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Close to one year after he almost ended his career, Kanye West has returned to the public eye. Barely surviving the media scrutiny, West is working on a new album. Initially set to end his college-themed albums, the title was Good Ass Job and was confirmed by Drake. But, a change in mood changed the title to Dark Twisted Fantasy.

Only a few days after his video for "Power" was released to the internet, his single with Beyonce was leaked. Now, it seems as if the people are in love with Kanye once again. All has been forgiven over at MTV and Kanye West has been invited to attend the 2010 Video Music Awards. He is likely to be on the list of performers.

Throughout his career, Kanye West has had a number of issues with the MTV Video Music Awards. He was upset with them in 2007 after they made him perform his chart-topping hit, "Stronger," in a hotel room, while Britney Spears performed her single on the main stage. It made Kanye West so upset he pulled the race card and vowed to never return to the VMAs. In 2008, MTV made sure to accomodate Kanye West and then last year, he pulled the stunt with Taylor Swift. During the time off, MTV vowed to never insult Kanye West again and Kanye West vowed to behave at MTV.

Because of this, Kanye West will be attending the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards and staying in his seat until it is actually his turn to get up. With Dark Twisted Fantasy set for release on November 16 and the video for "Power" already out, Kanye West will probably be out of his seat a lot during the next VMA award show.

Lil Wayne faces another Lawsuit

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

While still serving his prison sentence in New York and having to face the Arizona charges when he gets out, the problems are mounting up for Lil Wayne. Reportedly, the Young Money CEO has earned $200 million since 2005 and he has yet to pay his manager the 15% they agreed to. Because of this, Wayne is being sued by his former manager.

Melissa Phillipan was Lil Wayne's manager until 2005 and she was fired after booking Wayne at a "sub-par" location. They had initially agreed to a three-year deal and Phillipan had booked 21 shows for Lil Wayne. Lil Wayne argues he never signed an agreement with Phillipan, saying she forged his signature. In 2006, she sued him and they settled out of court.

Recently, there may be proof of Lil Wayne lying under oath and he may still owe Phillipan. There is a video on YouTube in which Wayne acknowledges Melissa Phillipan as his manager and praises her for the opportunities she has landed for him. With the good times clearly behind them, a new lawsuit has been filed by Melissa Phillipan against Lil Wayne, Cash Money Records, and the overall Universal Music Group.

Irv Gotti takes Executive Role with Bad Boy Records

By Runteldat
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

After over one year of searching for a new distribution deal for his defunct Murder Inc. Records, it appears as if Irv Gotti has thrown in the towel. Quick to prove he still has money, Gotti is always shown living the high life. But, with Murder Inc. as his primary income, something had to change.

Irv Gotti modeled himself after Diddy, but not even Diddy has suffered through what Gotti has. Of course, he was in the middle of the feud between Biggie and Tupac, but Bad Boy remained relevant. Irv Gotti watched one man, 50 Cent, bring down his empire. While they still cranked out one more hit for each artist, things were not the same.

Failed comeback attempts have taken place in both 2007 and 2009, now the artists have left the label. For the past three years, there has been talk of Newz, who was featured on Hip Hop Vibe's "On the Rise" section. But, after being pushed to the side by Universal Records in favor of Young Money, Irv Gotti decided to leave the situation for a new deal with Atlantic Records, only to find his label pushed aside for new projects from T.I.

Tired of waiting, Irv Gotti has reportedly gone out and done something for himself, moving on and getting a job with Bad Boy Records. Under the terms of this deal, Murder Inc. will be distributed by Bad Boy/Interscope, but it is Irv Gotti's main job to find more artists to sign to Bad Boy, not his own label. Diddy is most likely happy that his once-biggest rival has now come on as an employee for his company.

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION LISTED ABOVE IS PURELY A RUMOR UNTIL OTHERWISE CONFIRMED AND NOT TO BE HELD AGAINST HIP HOP VIBE OR TBT ENTERTAINMENT GROUP, LLC.

T.I. talks Eminem, Fashion, and Alfamega

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Three years ago, T.I. shocked the hip hop world, when he was able to pull Eminem out of hiding for a collaboration. Working on T.I.'s 2007 album, T.I. vs. T.I.P., the duo united for "Touchdown." Most people responded well to the song. Lack of promotion led to it not becoming a radio hit, but it is a fan favorite.

Many listeners believed the song was a one-time-only collaboration between Eminem and T.I. But, following the recording, a bond was made between the two rappers. While the two have yet to collaborate again, T.I. said it is possible the two unite for King Uncaged. On his return album, T.I. plans to pull out all the stops.

Outside of the hip hop game, T.I. has branched out into clothing, making himself into a mogul. For the past three years, T.I. has been promoting his clothing line, AKOO. The line has steadily grown each year and will soon rival other established hip hop brands. When asked of his biggest inspiration in the fashion game, T.I. pointed to Diddy and Jay-Z, founders of Sean John and Rocawear, two of the biggest mainstays.

When T.I. first created AKOO, he hoped to have similar success to Rocawear. Pharrell, who worked with him on his debut album, hailed T.I. as the Jay-Z of the South. Once T.I. launched Grand Hustle Records and began putting albums out on a frequent basis, he started living up to the title. Now, branching out into clothing and film, the former rubberband man is hoping to be the successor. Had he not been in prison for most of last year, T.I. would have been hard at work on another album and cross promoting it with other projects.

The time T.I. spent in prison has been under much scrutiny, especially after he was released from prison early for good behavior. Former Grand Hustle artist, Alfamega suggested T.I. may have given information to the police to ensure his release. This is something T.I. has denied and other rappers, such as Ja Rule, have spoken up for T.I. Rule has known T.I. for a little while and he said he is not the type of man to give someone up for his own personal gain. T.I. said he would ignore all digs from Alfamega as they have not talked since 2008.

Young Jeezy denies dissing Rick Ross

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

With Lil Wayne behind bars, Rick Ross has taken over radio waves. Right now, the South has the hip hop game on lock and the main catalyst is Rick Ross. Fresh off a feud with 50 Cent, which boosted his profile, Ross feels invincible.

On his latest music, Rick Ross flows with a confidence he has never had before. Due to this confidence, more people are into his music. Before, he had only a cult following, but after declaring his victory over 50 Cent, Ross is on top.

Teflon Don is seemingly the celebration of this victory as he has worked with the finest in the game. Landing Stacey Dash for the video of his first single and Ne-Yo for the hook was a major coup. However, the true celebration came in the video for the following single, "B.M.F. (Blowin' Money Fast)." The song has the streets hot and the video is even hotter.

Young Jeezy, Rick Ross' label-mate, recently remixed the song, calling it "Death Before Dishonor" and takes shots at Rick Ross. Ross has yet to respond to the diss, but Maybach Music artist, Torch, has and he was very upset. Not simply because Jeezy dissed Ross, but because he did it in a sneaky manner. Before anything major comes from the disagreement, Young Jeezy has decided to set the record straight. He said he has always been friends with Rick Ross and would never diss him.

During the feud with 50 Cent, Young Jeezy openly sided with Rick Ross and he said the alliance is still there because the song had nothing to do with Rick Ross.

Post-Bad Boy Yung Joc

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Four years ago, Yung Joc burst onto the scene with his head-rocking single, "It's Goin' Down." With the South still dominating radio, it appeared as if the baton had been handed to Yung Joc. Not only did he keep Atlanta on the airwaves, he added credibility to Bad Boy South, Diddy's answer to Def Jam South.

Diddy had created Bad Boy South in 2004 and the new imprint had been fighting for relevance after losing Young Jeezy. But, with Joc on the label, all the attention was back to Bad Boy. Quickly, he had a top five single and became Diddy's favorite person. Yung Joc was made into the focal point of the entire Bad Boy label.

Following the success of New Joc City, Yung Joc headed back in the studio to record his next album. Early in the fall of 2007, Yung Joc returned with his album, Hustlenomics. Due to a lack of interest, the album suffered, despite heavy promotion from Bad Boy and Atlantic Records. The failure of the first single off the album, "Coffee Shop," led to Diddy not doing enough to promote "Bottle Poppin," the follow up.

While working with Diddy, Yung Joc learned he could not simply focus on rap, he had to become a businessman. In 2006, the year he released his debut album, Yung Joc made $10 million. Joc would take this money and create his own label, Swagg Team Entertainment, under Jive Records. In 2008, he focued on a project by Chicago group, HotStylz and their "Lookin' Boy" single. During this time, rumors of friction between Diddy and Yung Joc arose, but they were denied.

Having planned to release an album each year, Yung Joc did not release a project in 2008 and had a release planned for 2009. But, for unknown reasons, an album did not come from Yung Joc in 2009 and he instead focused on his other group, Dallas-based GS Boyz and their "Stanky Leg" single. Much like HotStylz' single, the "Stanky Leg" was very popular and Yung Joc's label was gaining recognition. Despite Yung Joc wanting to release his next album on Jive Records, there were still denials of any feud.

During the summer of 2009, Yung Joc took all of the material he recorded for his Bad Boy album and released it for free through his Swagg Team label. The Grind Flu was met with positive reviews and Joc made it clear he was done with Bad Boy. Late in 2009, he announced he was off the label and Diddy came back and said he was still on the label. Weeks later, it was revealed that Yung Joc was really off the label, but he has yet to come with anything new.

Three years have taken place since the last time Yung Joc released an album. This time around, he will not have the machine of Bad Boy Records behind him. Yung Joc will have to go at this third album, and the rest of his albums, alone.

Young Buck wants off G-Unit Records

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

It was often said no one repped G-Unit as hard as Young Buck did and it was true for the most part. Each new feud started by his former boss, 50 Cent, Buck joined in. When DJ Khaled started his anti-G-Unit campaign, Young Buck went against Khaled. But, that would be the end of the line for G-Unit and Young Buck.

Behind the scenes, friction was building, even then, but it was more apparent one year later. Starting in the spring of 2008, the feud was blatant. Young Buck was blasting G-Unit every chance he got and even teamed up with Game. Realizing he would not get off the label by force, he tried flattery.

Young Buck played into 50 Cent's hands and the result was the diss record, "So Disrespectful," in which he dissed multiple rappers. Following the diss record, Buck hit back earlier this year, but has been low-key for the most part. He has made headline news with his financial troubles and the taunts from 50 Cent. Recently, Young Buck decided to address all of this and said all he wants is out.

For four years, Young Buck experienced great memories with G-Unit Records, but for the past three years, it has been nothing but hardache. Due to this, Young Buck is demanding his release from G-Unit.

Fat Joe ignores 50 Cent, praises New Album

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Fat Joe has spent his entire career as one of the top ten rappers as far as radio play goes. Having been in the game for seventeen years, he has proven himself as a hitmaker. But, when people discuss the best rappers of the 1990s and 200s, they mention Jay-Z and Nas, hits usually are credited to Ja Rule and Jay-Z.

Despite all his accomplishments, Fat Joe has never held the number one spot. Due to his age, it appears as if he will never have a run on the top. His feud with 50 Cent does not do much to help matters, either. For years, 50 Cent has been a thorn in his side, but he has used his internet popularity to lampoon Fat Joe.

Before his feud with 50 Cent, Fat Joe was well-respected in the hip hop game and now he is viewed as a joke. This was reflected in the sales of his last album. Embarrassed, Fat Joe went to work on his most-recent album, The Darkside, Vol. 1. Hoping to finally solidify himself, Fat Joe lost the nice guy image to return to the hardcore music that landed him the initial deal with Relativity Records.

Even with 50 Cent breathing down his neck, Fat Joe is confident in his album. Having made millions in the rap game, Fat Joe could care less about how much his album sells. But, having been in the game for seventeen years, Fat Joe is hoping the album will be well-recieved. Despite logging more years than the likes of Jay-Z and Nas, he has still yet to cross that barrier. With this album, Fat Joe feels he has rightfully earned his spot among the greatest of all-time.

While 50 Cent teases Fat Joe about record sales, Joe replies about his latest music, which is recieving just as much hype as the last 50 Cent album.

Throwback Video of the Day: Dr. Dre - "Been There Done That"

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Fresh off his tenure with Death Row Records, Dr. Dre was looking to run a company of his own with no interference from anyone. After starting his career with Eazy-E and helping him build Ruthless Records, Dr. Dre stood up for himself and helped Suge Knight build Death Row. But, following a disagreement with the star of Death Row, Tupac Shakur, Dre had to do for himself. For the remainder of Tupac's life, Dr. Dre worked towards building Aftermath Entertainment.

Unfortunately, Aftermath Entertainment did not have the opportunity to exist during the life of Tupac Shakur and this deeply hurt Dr. Dre despite the feud. With this new label, Dre wanted to focus on creativity as opposed to the gangsta lifestyle. Following the death of his former artist, Dr. Dre devised a quick exit from gangsta rap. Having never completely wanted to be a gangsta figure, this was not a stretch for him. Before the end of 1996, Dre recorded "Been There Done That" for his Aftermath compilation album.

In a heartfelt goodbye to the genre that made him rich, here is "Been There Done That," the first Dr. Dre single to not feature another artist.
