Throughout his career, Rick Ross has been linked to hip hop power-players, Diddy and Birdman. From the start, Ross has worked with Cash Money. Ever since 2009, he has been affiliated with Bad Boy Records.

Rick Ross rose to become a force in rap during the summer of 2009. Out of nowhere, Ross also became a force behind the scenes. After becoming an imposing force in rap, he began expanding his label.

In 2009, Rick Ross launched Maybach Music Group, his record label. Initially, he signed local artists he grew up with. But, in 2011, he added Wale, Pill, Meek Mill, among many other big-name underground rappers.

When Rick Ross began searching for a distribution deal, both Diddy and Birdman laid out offers to have the expanded Maybach Music label under their empires. But, Rick Ross learned enough from both of them that he decided to work directly with a major record label. Looking back on things, Rick Ross said his inspiration to expand his own label came from the example they laid years earlier.
