Freddie Gibbs talks Gary, Indiana and Working with Scarface

Gary, Indiana is probably best-known for being the home of the legendary Jackson family. However, on their quest to fame, they ended up leaving Gary for California. It turns out the Jacksons were not the only musically-inclined people from Gary.

Freddie Gibbs, a Corporate Thugz rapper, is originally from Gary and he discussed their hip hop scene. While he is the only rapper to have mainstream success from Gary, there are many more artists from the area. Gibbs discussed CCA, Will Scrilla, and MCGz.

When asked about the Gary hip hop scene, Freddie Gibbs said it is full of thug rappers. The reason the primary genre is thug rap is because all of the rappers are thugs. Freddie Gibbs said there are no open mics in Gary, with few venues.

Growing up, Freddie Gibbs said Scarface, the rapper, was more influential to him than "Sesame Street." He grew up idolizing Scarface and now he is working with him. Freddie Gibbs said working with Scarface is a dream come true for him. It is guys like Scarface and Bun B who inspired Freddie Gibbs to first pick up a mic and start rapping.
