As a white man from Alabama, Yelawolf bucked the trend when he decided to become a rapper. When he began rapping, Yelawolf knew he was joining a black man's game. Yelawolf quickly earned the respect of the rappers in his area. His significant buzz led to Yelawolf being signed to Eminem's Shady Records.

Their has been an influx of white rappers entering the rap game in 2011. The White Girl Mob rose to fame this year, led by Kreayshawn and V-Nasty. Both femcees are known for dropping the N-word in their records. Recently, V-Nasty announced she would no longer be using the N-word.

Yelawolf recently spoke with Vlad TV and he was asked about white rappers using the N-word in their records. The Shady Records rapper said he would never use that word in his records. While he has been successful in the rap game, Yelawolf said rappers of other races need to realize hip hop is still black music and they should respect this.

In Yelawolf's opinion, it is embarrassing when a white rapper uses the N-word. He said the White Girl Mob should be careful when they use the word. They never know who would take offense and who would slap them around for using it. Being from where he is from, Yelawolf said if he used the word, joking around in his home, his mother would slap him. This, and his respect for black people, given their rough history, Yelawolf said he, as a white person, never uses the N-word.
