T.I. talks Title of Next Album

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

In the time since T.I. has been out of prison, he has been releasing music non-stop. Unlike his previous prison release, T.I. seems to be hungrier. While his next album will not come until next year, T.I. is still releasing singles. His big comeback single was the Big K.R.I.T.-assisted, "I'm Flexin."

The song did enough to re-establish T.I., who has recorded tracks with several artists. T.I. also helped give Future a boost when DJ Drama helped him get on the "Magic (remix)." In an effort to get his name back out there, T.I. revealed he may release a mixtape this year.

During an interview with Rolling Stone, T.I. discussed the name of his next album. Currently, Tip is debating between two titles. It is going to be a tough decision, said T.I. T.I. said his album may be titled Kill the King, because the object of Chess is to kill the king. A long time ago, T.I. revealed he was the king of the South. With his recent trouble, T.I. said his next album could also be called Trouble.

Jay-Z talks "Lost One" in "Decoded" paperback edition

One of Jay-Z's most introspective songs was "Lost One." The song deals with a number of issues, including the death of his nephew, Coleek.

Jay-Z decodes the verse below:

[7]/ It’s like having your life restarted / Can’t wait for your child’s life, to be a part of it / So now I’m childlike, waiting for a gift / To return, when I lost you, I lost it // Lose one, let go to get one / Left one, lose some to win some [Colleek, I lost one] / Sorry I’m a champion, Colleek, you’re a champion / I lost one /

7 Just when you’re on the verge of giving up hope and losing faith, the universe reveals unexpected consolations. My nephew’s girlfriend was just a couple months pregnant when he died, which none of us knew, maybe not even him. But the son she gave birth to looked just like his father, like Colleek reborn. The last verse is the most powerful example of the paradox of the song’s chorus, that even the greatest loss holds the possibility of redemption.

By The Hip Hop Writer

With his album, Ambition, coming soon, Wale has been all over the news. But, to be fair, Wale has been in the news ever since he confirmed his deal with Maybach Music. Rick Ross boasted about probably signing Wale. Then, three months later, Wale signed to his label.

During this period of time, Wale was feuding with Kid Cudi. The two rappers had actually been good friends. But, following the release of their respective debut albums, a beef emerged. Recently, the two ended their feud and reunited. Their reunion was official when they collaborated on their upcoming albums.

Wale recently broke his silence on his Kid Cudi collaboration. The song is called "Focused" and it was released last week. Wale said that track is simply a celebration of their success. Not only is it a celebration of their success, but also a celebration of their renewed friendship. Wale said he has managed to maintain his style since signing to Maybach Music.

Speaking of Maybach Music, everyone immediately wanted to discuss Rick Ross. This past weekend was very rough on the boss. Rick Ross suffered from two seizures this weekend, but Wale said he is doing 100% better.

Album Review: Nappy Roots - "Nappy Dot Org"

By Hardcore Critic
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

On their latest album, Nappy Roots returned as if they never left. Nearly a decade has passed since their original run on the top of the charts. On their latest album, Nappy Roots continued the "country boy" theme they originated in 2002.

However, on Nappy Dot Org, Nappy Roots was not alone. They recruited Organized Noize to be a part of their album. Together, all the artists recorded eleven unforgettable tracks. Those who are searching for lyrical hip hop will be a bit disappointed.

While lyrical ability is not a selling point for Nappy Dot Org, creativity is. Organized Noize has long been one of the most-creative figures in hip hop. Their creativity paired with Nappy Roots' unforgettable "country boy" sound created one of 2011's most-memorable albums. Nappy Roots delivered "real rap" on their latest album, which makes it a must-listen.

Ja Rule pushes "Pain is Love 2" back to 2012

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

For four years, Ja Rule has been on the comeback trail. In 2007, Murder Inc. Records made a strong comeback. The label established a deal with Universal Records and Irv Gotti accepted an executive role with the label. Ja Rule was to be the top priority of Universal Records.

Irv Gotti recently discussed what happened at Universal, revealing he and Ja Rule pulled the plug. Ja Rule was making daily appearances on BET and MTV as if it were 2004. But, this ended when his album was continiously delayed. Ja Rule announced his own independent move in 2009.

While Ja Rule has become independent, he said he will always be a part of Murder Inc. This summer, Ja Rule had hoped to release his album. Despite being in prison, Rule intended to release his album on October 11. The official video for "Spun a Web" was released, but nothing further came from Ja Rule.

Now, Ja Rule revealed his Pain is Love 2 album will be released in 2012. Next month, Ja Rule will release both "Real Life Fantasy" and "Superstar" to iTunes and radio. Around the time of the album's release, Rule will release his "Black Vodka" single.

Lloyd finally responds to Irv Gotti

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Until a few weeks ago, Irv Gotti had been out of the headlines for two years. The last time Irv Gotti made news was when Lloyd was trying to leave Murder Inc. Lloyd announced he had left the label and Irv Gotti said it was not true. Eventually, Lloyd did leave the label and signed with Interscope Records.

During Irv Gotti's interview, he addressed Lloyd, saying he was one person he had no love for. Irv Gotti re-hashed the wounds of 2009 and pointed out Lloyd's frequent G-Unit collaborations. It was apparent, Irv Gotti was highly upset with Lloyd. Ja Rule, however, has performed with Lloyd in the time since then.

Lloyd was well aware of the comments Irv Gotti made about him and he took the time to respond. During an interview on Shade 45 with Sway, Lloyd said he was cool with Irv Gotti's family. He said he does not want to have problems with anyone in the game. Lloyd went on to say he was glad Irv's opinions do not impact his career and that his feelings about him do not impact his life.

Despite all the things Irv Gotti said, Lloyd said he wishes him the best. He said working with 50 Cent was a personal achievement and also said he was thankful for what Irv Gotti did for him, earlier in his career.

Yealwolf gets Kid Rock for Debut Album

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Recently, Yelawolf decided to push his debut album back until 2012. Many were looking forward to hearing the first official album from Yealwolf. When he delayed the album, his fans were disappointed. But, this delay has given Yealwolf the time to add more guest appearances.

For Radioactive, Yelawolf already has Eminem, Gangsta Boo, and Lil Jon. Now, Yealwolf can add Kid Rock to the list. Kid Rock was initially one of the first white rappers to enter the game. But, when he shifted to rock music, his throne was eventually taken by Eminem.

Yelawolf has been dubbed the "Eminem of the South" by many fans and critics. The comparisons come from their sound, as opposed to lyrical content. It was ironic when Em added Yelawolf to the Shady Records roster. Even more ironic is Kid Rock joining the track listing of his upcoming debut album.

Russell Simmons supports Irv Gotti's bid for Def Jam presidency

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Def Jam has been in ruins for years. Recently, Irv Gotti returned to the spotlight to discuss a number of topics. Among the topics Irv Gotti spoke on were Def Jam. Since Jay-Z's departure from the label, Gotti said there is no one over there who cares. Irv Gotti then made a public plea to allow him to take over the label.

Given his run-ins with the federal government, Irv Gotti said he would understand if Def Jam did not want him. Regardless of who it was, Irv said it had be someone who cared. Desite his near decade-long beef with Chris Lighty, Irv Gotti said he would be a good choice. But, it had to be someone in hip hop who cared about hip hop.

No I.D. was recently hired as the Vice President of A&R at Def Jam and he stayed away from the situation. Russell Simmons, the founder of the label, recently spoke on Irv Gotti's comments. Simmons said he thinks Irv Gotti would be a good choice, he also likes how he is lobbying for the job. Aside from Gotti, he also said he likes DJ Khaled or Chris Lighty for the job.

This summer, Lil Wayne rapped "too much money ain't enough money," apparently he was not in Norway. Long before the world knew who Lil Wayne was, Snoop Dogg was one of the biggest rap stars on the planet. After twenty years in the game, Snoop Dogg is still one of the biggest international rap stars of all-time.

Snoop Dogg has also established himself as one of the more-credible businessmen in hip hop. There have been many people in the game to come and make money. Among those who have hit it big, only a few have managed to keep it. Not only has Snoop Dogg kept his money, he has found ways to multiply it.

Recently, Snoop Dogg had to go to Norway for an autograph-signing at an Addidas store. However, as he arrived into the country, the immigration stopped him. Through Twitter, Snoop Dogg informed his fans they had him stopped because of his money and he said that was not right. Can Diddy save New York hip hop?

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Hip hop originated in New York City, but was losing its grip on the hip hop game by the late 1980s. By the early 1990s, the West Coast had completely taken over the game. When New York needed new life breathed into them, it was Diddy, then known as Puff Daddy, who assmebled the team, which brought them back.

Def Jam is known as the mecca of hip hop. While there were hip hop record labels before Def Jam, they were run by older people, who did not quite understand hip hop. By the early 1990s, Def Jam did not quite understand current hip hop. In the end, Bad Boy Records revived the hip hop scene in New York.

With New York hip hop in ruins, once again, Def Jam is still not the label the people are turning to. Two of the biggest buzzing rappers from the City of New York are Red Cafe and French Montana. Two years ago, Diddy announced his re-focus on Bad Boy Records and announced he signed Red Cafe to the label, intending on making him the new flagship artist of the label.

Red Cafe is currently gearing up for his debut album and he is pounding the mixtape scene with a number of new releases. Along with the releases are coming music videos, which also showcase Red Cafe's artists who are signed to his Shakedown label. Diddy also managed to sign the entire Shakedown roster to his Bad Boy imprint, which is distributed by Interscope Records. For years, Diddy has been focused on his other business ventures, but his re-focus on his original business is doing wonders for hip hop.

Diddy is also negotiating with one of New York's hottest underground rappers, French Montana. Much like current Bad Boy artist, Red Cafe, French Montana is the head of his own label, Cocaine City. The roster boasts several other artists. If Diddy does end up signing French Montana, the entire Cocaine City roster will be included in the deal. Bad Boy Records has been compared to Def Jam, which distributed several sub-labels during their heyday, including Roc-A-Fella and Murder Inc.

With the new deal at Interscope Records, Diddy can establish the same sort of deal and distribute several labels in the New York area. The talent in New York remains there, but the exposure is what was lacking until recent years. Instead of waiting on the major label deals and the cameras, New York artists began creating their own labels, again, and turned on their own cameras. Now, they are catching the attention of the power-players, can Diddy be the man to put these people out?

By Lady Killa
Hip Hio Vibe Staff Writer

Being in the spotlight is something EyeCandi is used to. The Raleigh native is used to working the hip hop's elite. When she is not in the spotlight, EyeCandi is raising her two children. The jet-setting lifestyle is something EyeCandi did not envision, but it is something she has grown to love.

Growing up, many people often told EyeCandi she should model, so she took advantage. Due to the market, working hand-in-hand with hip hop came with the territory. EyeCandi has used this to her advantage, also becoming a promoter, of sorts. Many people know her face, as she has hosted countless events.

EyeCandi's face is one the world will be seeing more of, as she continues to make major moves. She has appeared in a number of music videos and she has also been nominated for an award. The Rise of J. Cole, over the years

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

The world is just getting to know J. Cole, but the hip hop world has been well aware of Jermaine for over three years. While hip hop fans may know a bit about J. Cole, few know the overall story. J. Cole, while from the South, does not fit the stereotypical mold of being a rapper from the South.

Since the age of fourteen, J. Cole has been rapping. While he grew up in a tough city, J. Cole kept his head in the books. This led to him going to St. John's University on an academic scholarship. During this time, J. Cole often displayed his raps and songs. Upon graduating, he released his debut mixtape.

His debut mixtape, The Come Up, gained acclaim for the single, "Lights Please." The song helped establish J. Cole as an artst and it eventually was heard by Jay-Z. At the time, Jay-Z was preparing to leave his longtime home, Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam, for his new label, Roc Nation. One clause in his contract with Def Jam was Jay-Z having to leave his Roc-A-Fella artists behind.

Needing to start fresh, Jay-Z was looking for fresh talent, so he signed J. Cole in 2008. Jay-Z spent most of 2008 establishing his Roc Nation label. In 2009, Jay-Z started working on The Blueprint 3. J. Cole decided to keep himself hot and he released his second mixtape, The Warm Up. The mixtape also contained "Lights Please" and was met with more critical acclaim than most of the albums released in 2009. After releasing two successful mixtapes, many fans were wondering when J. Cole's debut album would be released.

J. Cole promised fans his debut album would be released in 2010. Before the summer, J. Cole released a single, "Who Dat." The song received massive radio play in his native, North Carolina. "Who Dat" also did well in other markets, but no album release date was scheduled. With Roc Nation shifting their focus to the young daughter of Will Smith, Willow Smith, J. Cole released another mixtape. Friday Night Lights was also met with a strong critical reaction, but no album came.

Despite not having an album out, J. Cole's mixtapes were doing very well and he had songs in radio rotation, even music videos. Aside from his own work, many mainstream artists were featuring J. Cole on their albums. While the collaborations and mixtapes were nice, fans still patiently waited on J. Cole to release his debut album. During the summer of 2011, J. Cole said his album would be released on September 27 and not a day later.

But, with no music being released, many were beginning to give up on J. Cole. It was then when J. Cole prepared to release Cole World: The Sideline Story. Now, J. Cole is one of the biggest names in overall entertainment. With his album not even a month old, J. Cole is already working on his second album. Much like his mentor, Jay-Z, J. Cole intends to release a new album every year. On the mixtape level, J. Cole managed to give fans a new release every other year, with his singles keeping the fans entertained.
