Ten years ago, Ja Rule was winding down his second album, Rule 3:36 with the "I Cry" single. His focus had shifted to his third album, Pain is Love. On his previous album, Rule successfully crossed over and had become the biggest rap star on the planet.
At the time, Ja Rule had exceeded his own expectations, but it was nothing compared to what he would do next. With collaborations from Case, Jennifer Lopez, Ashanti, and other stars, Ja Rule released a triple platinum album. The album would also be hailed as a classic.
In the middle of the pop hits were songs in which Ja Rule talked about the downside to the fast life. Many of the lyrics were ignored and the album went with his career. But, the album proved to be a classic, with such songs as "Never Again" and "So Much Pain." Following this, Rule's career began heading downhill and he went completely pop.
The years since Pain is Love could have been better for Ja Rule, but he has scored a few hits in the time since then. However, nothing compares to the run he had, early in his career from 2000 to 2002. Ja Rule has decided to recreate magic, by pushing his album back in order to record Pain is Love 2. With the release less than a month away, Ja Rule said the album is the best album he has ever recorded. This is putting a lot of pressure on this album to deliver the way his first three albums and his unreleased album, The Mirror, were received.
