Originally, Game intended to retire, following the release of his 2008 album, L.A.X. However, his label coaxed him into recording one more album. Game said the only way he would return to the game is if he could record an album called D.O.C. (Diary of Compton) and work with all the legends of the West Coast.
In January of 2009, Game announced The R.E.D. Album and began working on the project. As the project neared completion, Game reunited with Dr. Dre. From there, the album became subject to several delays. Game told fans, his next album would be D.O.C.
Weeks before the official release of R.E.D., Game talked about his next album. Today, Game announced he was already working on his next album and even revealed the title. Game announced his next album would be titled Soundtrack to Chaos and would not feature any guest appearances.
