Lupe Fiasco hits a snag with "Lasers"

For months, Lupe Fiasco has been discussing how unhappy he is with his label situation. Ever since 2008, Lupe Fiasco has been trying to release his third album. Atlantic Records has made up various excuses before Lupe fans forced their hand. In return, they forced his hand, making him go commercial.

When the media gained access to Lasers, the album was met with negative reviews. Because of this, Lupe Fiasco went into a slight depression. During this time, he admitted he had been suicidal over his career. B.o.B.'s hit single, "Nothin' on You," was intended for him, but Atlantic Records took it.

Lupe Fiasco was on top of the world last week, though. Despite all of the drama, his album debuted on top of the charts. Now, however, Lupe Fiasco is back to reality. The Chicago rapper is expected to see a 75% decline in his record sales. The drop is one of the biggest in recent history in the span of only one week. Even with the fast start, Lasers, may very well be Lupe Fiasco's most disappointing album, overall.

Lupe Fiasco is a Commercial Success

Over the past few months, Lupe Fiasco has been one of the most vocal rappers in the game. At least three times a week, Lupe has been in the news for one reason or another. Lupe Fiasco has been his own promotional team for his Lasers album. After three years of delays, the album was met with negative reviews by most critics.

Lupe Fiasco created his own lane as a rapper who relies on lyrics and wordplay, as opposed to "swag." Initially, Atlantic Records loved him for this. But, after the release of The Cool, the label wanted him to change his style. Not wanting to go pop, Lupe Fiasco refused to change and Atlantic Records delayed his album until he gave in.

After giving in, Lupe Fiasco was disappointed when Atlantic Records gave his "Nothin' on You" single to B.o.B. When his album finally came, he was sad because his album was panned. Now, Lupe Fiasco can finally be glad over something. While his album may not be a critical success, the album will definitely be a commercial success.

Lasers is projected to sell 240,000 in its first week.

Lupe Fiasco was suicidal over B.o.B.'s "Nothin' on You"

As previously mentioned, 2010 was intended to be the year when the official Lupe Fiasco comeback was supposted to take place. The label announced they were going to begin promoting him. Quickly, Lupe Fiasco landed a deal to record the "Nothin' on You" single. But, his label, Atlantic Records, decided to give the song to B.o.B.

Both artists are signed to Atlantic Records and B.o.B. already had buzz because of his Grand Hustle affiliation. This, paired with the fact that his version was more popular led to Atlantic Records giving the single to B.o.B. Eventually, "Nothin' on You" became a summer hit and topped the Billboard Hot 100.

This hurt Lupe Fiasco on many levels, as he was obviously played by his own team. Forced to hear the song over and over, knowing it should have been his, worked Lupe Fiasco over. Soon, the pain drove the Chicago rapper crazy and he wanted to end things. Because of B.o.B.'s success with his single became too much and Lupe Fiasco contemplated suicide.

Lupe Fiasco said the Atlantic Records executives told him his version of the song was wack and they passed it off to B.o.B. and he turned it into a smash.
