Diddy allowed 8Ball & MJG to leave Bad Boy

Diddy was looking to expand Bad Boy Records a few years ago when he signed 8Ball & MJG. Following his feud with Def Jam, he looked to make his label the biggest hip hop label around. In 2000, the Def Jam label had created a southern branch to the label. Four years later, Diddy looked to disrupt that movement with Bad Boy South.

Throughout his career, Diddy has had a knack for creating companies and hiring veterans to lead it to success. Because his attention was focused on the main Bad Boy label, he hired someone within the company to head the Southern extension. In an effort to hit the ground running, 8Ball & MJG was signed to the label.

As an established act, they sold multiple records for the new label, but their venture has run its course. Because Diddy was looking to get out of a contract, himself, he was willing to let 8Ball & MJG off of their contract. The duo said that he did not give them any trouble when it came to getting released from their contract. They are now making retirement plans.
