Before she ever gave him a lap dance, Lil Wayne was a major fan of Nicki Minaj. Wayne lended a verse to Nicki while she was still on the mixtape scene. Impressed with her skills, he tried to get her to sign with Young Money several times. But, she did not agree to a deal until 2009.

Lil Wayne talked about the first night of their I Am Music II tour when Nicki Minaj had the crowd rocking. Wayne said he never gets on his knees to praise people. But, following her performance, Lil Wayne said he got on his knees to praise his protege.

When Lil Wayne left for prison, he asked Drake to hold the team down. Nicki Minaj was also jocking for position within the camp. Wayne's advice to all of his artists was to find ways to make themselves hot while they wait on their album release dates. He also said the hotter they are may lead to their time coming sooner.
