Nas says Hip Hop scares the hell out of Fox News

For years, Nas has had issues with Fox News. He remembers when Bill O'Reilly cost Ludacris a lucrative sponsorship with Pepsi. Nas also remembers how the entire network reacted to him trying to name his last solo album, Nigger.

Fox News is viewed by many as a racist media outlet, which supports right wing politics. Most recently, the network showed their true colors when Common was invited to the White House by Michelle Obama. The panelists all had something negative to say.

Nas offered a bit of solace to Common when he said they were really old in their thinking. The Queens rapper likened Fox News to ignorant grandparents stuck in their ways. He said for them to say a rapper such as Common was too extreme to be in the White House, it proves they have no idea what they are talking about.

In Nas' opinion Fox News is like the older people in the community, scared of hip hop. Nas says when the people at Fox News think about the hip hop movement, it scares the hell out of them.

Nas has been at odds at Def Jam ever since he tried to name his 2008 album Nigger. Three years have passed since he last released a solo album. For 2010, Nas wanted to give his fans some of his work. Nas decided to release a second installment of his The Lost Tapes.

Despite having an album due, Def Jam did little to promote Nas' upcoming album. With the label against him, Nas decided to make his issues with Def Jam public. Lupe Fiasco used a similar tactic with Atlantic Records and they released his album. Nas did not have the same luck.

For nearly a year, Nas has been trying to release The Lost Tapes 2. With no release date in sight, Nas has moved on, without his album. Nas said there is a major difference between his previous label, Columbia Records, and Def Jam. Over there, he was used to getting his way when releasing albums, but it is a different story at Def Jam.

Nas discusses "The Lost Tapes, Vol. 2"

By The Hip Hop Writer

Having not released an album since 2008, Nas had gone back into the studio late in 2009. He hoped to release an album sometime in 2010, but ended up recording with Damian Marley. To close the year, Nas still hoped Def Jam would release a second installment of his Lost Tapes album series.

However, Nas and Def Jam have been having problems ever since he tried to release Nigger. The rapper was going to release an album that had shock value. With Jay-Z at the helm, Def Jam was going to release the album. However, once Jay-Z left the label, the problems truly began for Nas.

The problems have come to a head for Nas and he is demanding they release his album or release him. Nas is tired of being bullied by the label and he has taken action. He was so convincing that Def Jam was almost forced to release The Lost Tapes, Vol. 2 after the fans joined his protest. Despite the strong push from the fans, Def Jam still ignored the pleas.

Nas is tired of fighting and he is willing to sign an independent deal if it means finally releasing his new material since it appears as if Def Jam is bored with him. Initially he had hoped for a major promotion to go along with the release of his new album. Now, however, just to get it out, Nas may release it along with his next album and a free deluxe edition. With everything that is going on, Nas told fans not to expect this next album to be released through Def Jam.
