DMX is leaving prison a Changed Man

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

DMX will be the first one to admit he has made several mistakes over the years. At one point, X had it all as one of Def Jam's biggest faces and rap's central figure. Aside from the popularity, he had a loving family and the perfect house to go along with it.

But, with DMX's success came temptation and he gave in. This led to him losing everything he worked so hard for. Following a falling out with Def Jam, X moved to Columbia Records. But, when his album did not sell well, he was dropped.

When he lost his record deal, DMX soon lost his family. His wife had enough of the drugs and the cheating. With the children watching his actions, they disowned him. Then, in 2008, he was arrested several times and sent to prison.

In a little over three weeks, DMX will be released from prison and he is ready to put everything back together. Aside from his comeback album, DMX and his new fiancee` will be starring in a new reality show and X is focused on rebuilding his family life. DMX intends to build a relationship with all ten of his children, putting all of his demons to rest.

Earlier this week, DMX revealed he has an offer to join Maybach Music.

On the Rise: Deastro Dollar

By The Rap Scout
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Hailing from New York City, the name Deastro Dollar rings bells all the way down in Atlanta. Deastro Dollar is currently living out a childhood dream. As children, many dream of making it big in one way or another. But, there are few people who really have the drive to make this happen.

Deastro Dollar is clearly among those who have the drive to make it happen. Ever since his days in Long Island, NY he has been rapping and writing rhymes. While he was always good at rapping, it was not until recently when he realized he could make a career out of it. When that time came, he began putting his team together.

Not only is Deastro Dollar one of the top rappers in the Atlanta area, he is also one of the rising managers in the area. Aside from his own career and record label, Deastro Dollar is the head of his own management company.

In an exclusive interview with Hip Hop Vibe, Deastro Dollar discussed this and so much more. Check out the entire interview below:

Where did the name Deastro Dollar come from?
Wow, niggas have been calling me Deastro since I was eleven, twelve, years old. This older cat from my neighbor gave me that name. He said I was a little bad mo'fucker and had a big head, so he started calling me Deastro, which is a villain from the whole "G.I. Joe" cartoon and it just stuck. Then, a couple years later, my cousin started calling me D. Dollarz and that shit just stuck with me too.

How long have you been recording original material?
It's been about two years since I really started taking this shit serious and recording original material that the streets have been hearing. Shoutout to Bigg-Byrd, my in house producer and Lost Soul Gang member.

What is the name of your upcoming mixtape?
The Preparation, which is dropping on June 25th, so make sure yall go to datpiff.com and download your free copy and get on that major grease shit. All my supporters know what that mean.

Who are you working with on the new release?
Just my team, Lost Soul Gang. It was very important for me to keep this mixtape all family. Salute to my squad: Chuck T, Scoob-y, Bo-Eazy, Ocpell, and Bigg Byrd.

Aside from being an artist, you are also a label owner and a manager, correct?
Not a label owner, but yes I do have a managment company called Black House Management, which features artist and models and im always looking for talent, so hit us up blackhousemgnt@gmail.com.

How do you juggle all of these roles?
This is what I love to do, I was built for this shit. I actually go crazy when I'm not busy. I know its cliche, but hard work does truly pay off and I want to be looked at as one of the hardest working men in this business.

Has being in the Atlanta area helped your music on the local scale?
I'm originally from New York, but yeah the Atlanta hip hop scene has been great. The response has been crazy out here. Salute to the South.

How about on a national and international scale?
Well, that's what the internet is for. I'm going to continue to put out music and visuals on the net to help me reach areas I have never even heard of, speaking of which subscribe to my YouTube channel, youtube.com/deastrodollartv, and get a dose of that major gease shit.

Explain the video concept for your current single?
That's funny you asked because I'm trying to decide between three different records that I want to lead off The Preparation mixtape with, but we are shooting a video this weekend for it so stay tuned...

Are you currently trying to land any endorsement deals?
I'm always up for disscusion and money talks. Me and my nigga Sean (aka Krazy) are working on a fictional novel, so if there are any publishers reading this, holler at me.

Have you had the opportunity to work with any big name artists?
I am the big name.

Can you name one artist you have always looked up to?
I wouldn't say "looked up to," but two people that I have always respected their musical creativity is Nas and 2Pac.

Could you see yourself joining an established crew?
I mean, ideally I'm trying to take it to the top with the team I have now.

Have you spoken with any major labels?
My man, Chuck T, has been pitching my music to a few label heads on the West Coast, I'm just waiting for the call.

Rappers turned Executives #10: Rick Ross

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

The ascension of Rick Ross from a buzzing rapper from the South into a true boss was missed by many. His high-profile feud with 50 Cent helped him become one of rap's most popular figures. Rick Ross has definitely used this to his advantage.

During the time of his feud with 50 Cent, Rick Ross had launched his Maybach Music record label. In addition to his record label, Ross had also launched his Luxury Tax clothing line. Even rappers with no deals have record labels and clothing lines in today's time.

However, Rick Ross managed to take Maybach Music to a high level towards the end of last year. Becoming a true mogul, Ross siged Wale, Meek Mill, Pill, and Teedra Moses. Rick Ross still is not done expanding the size of his label, as DMX revealed he is interested in adding him to the roster.

Last summer, there were also rumors of Rick Ross considering bringing the Luxury Tax clothing line back and if that were to happen, Ross would truly rise to mogul status in the game. As of 2011, Rick Ross is one of the top ten rappers turned executives.

Shawty Lo explains terms of G-Unit deal

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Earlier this year, Shawty Lo expressed interest in signing to G-Unit Records. A little over a week ago, Shawty Lo sat down and made things official. Now signed to G-Unit Records, it appeared as if Shawty Lo had signed a regular artist deal.

With Shawty Lo becoming the latest member of G-Unit South, he has decided to explain his deal. Before signing with G-Unit, he was the head of D4L, a group and his label. Shawty Lo's new deal with G-Unit Records reflects this.

The deal signed was not one between Shawty Lo, instead the deal was between D4L and G-Unit. Under the terms of the new deal, D4L is now a member of G-Unit. Additionally, each of the members is signed to a solo deal with G-Unit.

Most importantly, G-Unit Records has become the official distributor of D4L Records.
