DJ Khaled compares himself to L.A. Reid and Berry Gordy
In the past few years, there has not been a person to unify artists the way that DJ Khaled does. Because of his yearly album releases, he has put to rest a lot of rumors. Not to mention the fact that he is the main reason that the South still dominates the hip hop scene. A shift has taken place from Atlanta to Miami and that is mainly due to DJ Khaled. The unity that Khaled stands for has been talked about by many people, but now the DJ has spoken on it, himself.
L.A. Reid is one of the most well-known record executives in history. He has dealt with so many stars, past and present. Reid has touched quite a few careers from Babyface to Jay-Z. His record is impressive. Not only has he united many artists, but he has also profited off of them. While Reid has worked for many record labels, he has also created a few. The most notable record label that he created is LaFace Records, which has been very successful.
The accomplishments of Berry Gordy does not even have to be touched on. DJ Khaled sees himself as either one of these men, just as 21st century version of them. Khaled has created his own record label and he serves as an executive for Def Jam. Unlike L.A. Reid and Berry Gordy, DJ Khaled has been working with many stars long before he was an executive. DJ Khaled was the official DJ of Fat Joe and his Terror Squad label and Fat Joe secured a distribution deal for Khaled on Koch Records (now E1 Music). In 2006, he released his debut album, which featured many of the top rappers in Southern hip hop, along with many newcomers, who are now stars. Following the success of his sophomore album, We The Best, DJ Khaled was offered an executive role with Def Jam and his own label, We The Best Music.
Because of his ability to unify many artists, he has been placed in the same position as L.A. Reid and Berry Gordy.
