Lil Wayne plays Bangladesh again

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Three years ago, Lil Wayne made the rap game his court. His triple platinum album, Tha Carter III dominated 2008. Wayne cranked out four hits from the album, "Lollipop," "A Milli," "Got Money," and "Mrs. Officer." The second single, "A Milli," was produced by Bangladesh, putting him on the map.

While the song did wonders for his career, Bangladesh said he was never properly paid for his services. Because of this, the rising producer said he would never work for Lil Wayne again. For well over two years, he has been bashing Wayne in the media. But, late in 2010, Bangladesh and Lil Wayne ended their feud.

Bangladesh said his latest beat would be perfect for Lil Wayne, so he decided to put the beef aside. He said the "6 Foot 7 Foot" beat was going to be "A Milli" on steriods. The song became a monster hit, but has had the same result for Bangladesh, he has not been paid. Falling for the same mistake twice, the beef is back on and he says he will never again produce for Lil Wayne.

Hottie of Week: Ladi Red

By Lady Killa
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Also known as Jessica, Ladi Red is very popular on the club scene in New York City. Her name may not ring bells, but it will in the near future. Having been around for some time, she is working on building a career.

Through her frequent club visits, Ladi Red has come across several rising rappers. The result of this has led to her laying background vocals on some tracks. Aside from the small features, she has also appeared in a few videos.

With the video honeys, as they are fondly called, building careers off being in music videos, Ladi Red is building her own career. For now, she will be appearing in local videos, but her aim is international.

Earlier today, Ladi Red gave us an exclusive interview, read it below:

How did you get the name Ladi Red?
Well, it comes from my usual choice of clothing and the fact that red is my favorite color.

Do you enjoy doing what you do?
For the record, I am much more than a simple party girl, I work hard during the week and I got to school. But, when I have free time, I do hit up the clubs. So, for the most part, I do what I have to do. Having the opportunity to work and go to school is a blessing with the economy the way it is, so yes, I do enjoy doing what I do.

When will people be seeing more of you?
I will be a part of several different projects, in both minor and major roles.

Will you be appearing in any music videos this summer?
Hopefully so because I need all of the exposure I can get.

How do you feel about being referred to as a video honey?
Personally, it does not matter what people call me or what they think about me. I do what I have to do so I can do what I want to do. Being in front of the camera is what I want to do and a price comes along with that and if the price is being called a video honey, then so be it.

Do you have a manager or an agent?
Actually, I do, I am currently working with Aaron McBride and his BRS Management.

Is he behind many of your upcoming appearances?
Yes he is. Aaron has been wonderful every step of the way, as he has had my career as the top priority the entire time I have been with him.

How long have you been working with him?
For a very long time, he was one of the first people to truly realize the talents I have aside from my looks. He helped get me on a song a where my voice was used in a phone recording?

Have you considered a career in music?
There are a lot of things I have considered. However, I live life one step at the time. Before I try to start a music career, I need to actually get the ball rolling on my current projects. Once I get a result from this, I will begin focusing on other projects.

Do you have any shoutouts?
Yes, I would like to shout out everyone who is down with me and they know who they are!

Prodigy remembers Saigon feud

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Since getting out of prison, Prodigy has focused on rebuilding burned bridges. When he signed with G-Unit Records, Prodigy had to take on several of 50 Cent's feuds. But, within four years, he and Havoc were dropped from the label.

Back on the independent circuit, Prodigy has reconnected with former ally, Nas. Already, Mobb Deep and Nas have a new song out. With Prodigy being out of prison, he has discussed several topics.

Among the most popular was Jay-Z and another hot-button topic has been Saigon. Recently, Prodigy reflected on their feud, which began in 2007. When asked about recording with the Yardfather, Prodigy referred to him as a flea.

Going on about Saigon, Prodigy said he is a nobody and not even the type of rapper he would want to do a song with because he is corny. Prodigy also said he has no strength or power in the streets, so he would have no reason for wanting to link up with him on any level.

Waka Flocka Flame disses Hip Hop Blogs

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

In spite of his immense popularity, there has been plenty of negativity surrounding Waka Flocka Flame. Even though he is one of the brightest new stars in the game, Waka said he would much rather be a professional wrestler. Often, he says he does not want to rap, but he has to.

Regardless of why he raps, Waka Flocka Flame is one of the biggest names out there. However, Waka Flocka Flame does not rely on lyricism to generate buzz. Instead, he makes party music that relies on repetition. Because of this, several hip hop sites have taken aim at the young rapper.

For well over a year, since he has been in the spotlight, Waka has endured this. After holding his tongue, he has decided to take aim at everyone who has taken shots at him. Media Takeout is among the top of his list. The site has been poking fun at the amount of weight Waka Flocka Flame has put on over the past few months. Waka replied saying it was clear he has been eating so they need to stop hating.

Waka Flocka Flame went on to say "fuck critics, fuck blogs, I'm going in, Salute Me or Shoot Me Vol. 3."

Prodigy said he almost fought Jay-Z after Summer Jam 2001

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

It is no secret that Jay-Z and Mobb Deep have issues with each other. The primary feud is not between Jay-Z and the group, but rather Jay-Z and Prodigy. For years, the two exchanged subliminal disses on songs.

But, by 2001, Jay-Z had officially crowned himself as the king of hip hop. With this, he had to defend his throne, which meant dissing Prodigy. In his diss to Prodigy, he also name-dropped Nas, another rival.

The major feud ended up being between Jay-Z and Nas, but Prodigy still had issues with Hov. Jay-Z first performed his "Takeover" diss at Summer Jam 2001. P was not pleased after hearing the song.

Weeks after the performance, both happened to be enjoying meals at Diddy's Justin's restaurant when Prodigy approached Jay-Z. In 2008, Prodigy talked a little about this confrontation. But, he recently delved deep into the situation. While Prodigy was not pleased with the song, his reasons for wanting to fight Jay-Z had nothing to do with the Summer Jam diss.

Prodigy said he had an entourage of around fifteen men and Jay-Z had two bodyguards. The men surrounded the door and were waiting for Jay-Z to exit the building. When he exited, he reached for P's hand and said he had no real beef with him. Instead, Jay-Z said their issues were simply music and he asked him to keep it music. Prodigy shook his hand and the two agreed to keep it music.

Looking back on it, Prodigy realizes he could have really taken advantage of Jay-Z if he wanted to.

Now a member of Maybach Music, Wale decided to take a trip down memory lane. After having a great friendship with fellow newcomer, Kid Cudi, the two engaged in a feud. However, the two managed to end their feud earlier this year.

Recently, Wale opened up about why the feud was so easily ended. The DC rapper said he and Kid Cudi opened up about why they were mad. When everything was out in the open, they were able to work through things and make peace.

Wale said personal issues in both of their lives helped them to go ahead and end the feud in order to get back to making music.

Ja Rule talks about Upcoming Prison Sentence

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Even though he has been the most dominant rapper in the game, setting records, Ja Rule's best time came when he was with his family. The side of Ja Rule no one had the chance to see was his wife and two children. Despite what he raps about, this is what really counts to Rule.

Four years ago, Ja Rule began putting his comeback together. Rule linked up with Lil Wayne and they recorded the "Uhh Ohhh!" single. The song was poised to become a hit when the label suddenly halted promotion. Ja Rule's comeback was derailed and he was left out in the cold.

In the middle of his comeback attempt, Ja Rule was arrested, alongside Lil Wayne. The two were in Harlem filming the video for "Uhh Ohhh!." Following the video shoot, they performed alongside Juelz Santana and Kanye West. After the show, both rappers began smoking marijuana and were both caught by the police protection and taken into custody.

Lil Wayne finished his prison sentence back in November and Ja Rule starts his in June. The only difference is Rule will have to serve two years. When his sentence ends, he will go on trial again and will likely spend another two years in prison for tax evasion. Rule will miss even more time from the game, but most importantly, he will miss his daughter graduating from high school and two years away from his family. That is what hurts Ja Rule the most, not the moves he will lose in his career.

Mobb Deep prepares first Post-G-Unit release

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

When 50 Cent signed Mobb Deep to G-Unit Records, it was an obvious power play. Despite all of the moves 50 Cent had made, not many people took him serious as a businessman. It took him adding an established artist to establish himself.

Signing Mobb Deep was a major power play on 50 Cent's part, but it eventually backfired. G-Unit Records was too big to support itself. After branching out, the label had too many feuds going on.

Even though G-Unit was home to Mobb Deep, they were falling from grace. Their 2006 album, Blood Money, was a flop and it led to them being dropped. The deal had nothing to do with 50 Cent, as Interscope forced the move.

With no hard feelings, 50 Cent and Mobb Deep have maintained a close relationship. But, Mobb Deep has decided they will hit the independent circuit before searching for a label. Havoc said sometimes it is important to do things without major help. The duo will release an EP and if it receives the right response, they will follow with an album and shop for a label, more than likely G-Unit.

In 2006, Cam'ron had hit the peak of his career, in the eyes of many. Free of Roc-A-Fella Records, Cam'ron was able to express his dislike of Jay-Z for the first time. For years, the two rappers had issues with each other. These issues reached a peak when Cam'ron joined Jay-Z's Roc-A-Fella label.

The feud with Jay-Z helped Cam'ron boost his image, but it would not be his claim to fame. Instead, his Killa Season album and movie of the same name, helped to solidify him. The album and the film were met with positive reviews. In the years since, rumors have said Cam'ron will do sequels.

Back in the game and reunited with The Diplomats, Cam'ron is on a creative wave. Now that he has his company back, Cam said he has two major film projects on the way. In the middle of the new work, T.I. was sent back to prison after being brought up on drug charges. Killer Mike had hoped to release his PL3DGE album before the end of the year. But, without T.I., the label basically shut down.

With T.I. in prison, Killer Mike often checks up on him. If he does not visit, he will send him an email. T.I.'s recent response caught Mike off guard. In his response, he asked how his and Young Dro's tour was doing and he congratulated them on their success.

50 Cent talks Comedy Show

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Eight years ago, 50 Cent signed the $1 million contract with powerhouse, Interscope Records. At the time, he and his team were celebrating because they had made it. While they knew they had something great, 50 Cent and G-Unit had no idea the movement would become.

Following the release of Get Rich or Die Tryin', 50 Cent branched out into clothing and shoes. By 2004, he had a full roster of artists on G-Unit Records. Once he built the label, he expanded his company into film. In 2005, 50 Cent released his blockbuster hit, Get Rich or Die Tryin' movie.

Six years later, 50 Cent has scaled things down quite a bit, but he is still in the big money. Recently, he expanded his sub-brand, ThisIs50. So far, it houses his ThisIs50.com site and 50 Cent has bigger plans with a comedy show. Yesterday, 50 Cent revealed his intentions to launch a comedy show named "This Is 50 Comedy Show."

With the news spreading across several hip hop sites, 50 Cent has now discussed the show. He said he has some of the funniest comedians signed on for the tour. Beanie Sigel blames Jay-Z feud on 40/40 bodyguard

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

In 2009, Jay-Z released The Blueprint 3 on his new record label, Roc Nation. The hip hop community was wondering how the old Roc-A-Fella roster felt about this. For the most part, they were all happy for Jay-Z and his new venture.

Beanie Sigel was supposed to be the next in line on the label through his State Property imprint. But, his refusal to tone down his lyrics led to him being overlooked. Still, Beans had only positive things to say about Jay-Z.

Only one month after Beanie Sigel praised Jay-Z, he released a diss record. Initially, he said this was not a free pass for others to go after Jay-Z. However, Beanie Sigel soon teamed up with 50 Cent to go after Jay-Z.

For the most part, the media sided with Jay-Z. It was not because of his popularity in comparion to Beans, but it was because Sigel did not make much sense. Looking back on it, Beanie Sigel realizes this too, so he decided to explain why he acted the way he did. Beanie Sigel said he dissed Jay-Z because he was shaken down by a bodyguard at Jay-Z's 40/40 Club. Because of this, he decided to go after Jay on record.

Mack Maine talks "Tha Carter IV" pushback

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Last week, Lil Wayne fans were hit with disappointing news. It was revealed the long-awaited Tha Carter IV was delayed, once again. Ever since 2008, Lil Wayne has discussed releasing the fourth edition of the Carter series.

Following the release of Tha Carter III, Lil Wayne decided to take a step back. Having already dominated rap, he wanted to make a different kind of album. Then, when he was sentenced to prison, he wanted to introduce his crew of artists.

In 2009, Lil Wayne released We Are Young Money and he promoted his Rebirth album. Due to the delays on those two albums, Wayne had to push Tha Carter IV to 2010. But, with him being behind bars, the album had to wait again.

Instead of releasing those tracks as Tha Carter IV, Lil Wayne decided to give fans another album in the place of his fourth Carter album. For his second 2010 release, Lil Wayne gave fans I Am Not A Human Being. The album did well for Wayne to be behind bars when he released it. Now, with Lil Wayne free, he is working like a mad man to finally release Tha Carter IV.

Mack Maine, the president of Young Money, recently opened up on why Tha Carter IV is suffering its latest delay. When Lil Wayne first discussed his Carter III follow-up and the direction he intended to take with his next album, he said it would not be Tha Carter IV. Lil Wayne said that album would be one everybody liked.

Lil Wayne, according to Mack Maine, is taking his time in order to assure Tha Carter IV is an album that everyone likes. Due to his perfectionist nature, Wayne has decided to take his time with the new album.

Fred the Godson joins Rick Ross and Fat Joe to recreate The Fat Boyz

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Earlier this year, Beanie Sigel suggested he, Rick Ross, and Fat Joe get together to recreate The Fat Boyz. At the time, the idea stirred up a little buzz. But, after a few weeks, the idea was forgotten. Fat Joe has been struggling for hits, while Rick Ross has been taking over the game.

The Fat Boyz represented a time when hip hop was simpler and less violent. For years, leaders in the black community have been pleading for hip hop to return to this type of music. Beanie Sigel, Rick Ross, and Fat Joe all create violent music. But, if they were to unite to recreate such a legendary group, they may change their style up.

SOHH.com recently revisited the idea of recreating the legendary group. They asked "Fat Man" hitmaker, Fred the Godson about who he would team up with for a Fat Boyz crew. Fred replied with the same two Beanie Sigel chose, Rick Ross and Fat Joe. Ross would be on the team because of his popularity, while Joe would be on because of his personality.

A few months ago, Fred the Godson had the chance to meet Fat Joe and they hit it off well.

Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Following two years of releasing albums, fans are eager to hear what 2011 has in store for Eminem. More than likely, he will take the year off to promote Shady Records. Eminem has already announced his first project of the year.

Teaming with Slaughterhouse's Royce da 5'9, Eminem plans to release an EP. The recordings will be the first time the two teamed up in over a decade. Following their string of collaborations, a feud erupted between the two.

In 2009, Eminem and Royce da 5'9 found common ground and they ended their dispute. The same year, Eminem laid the groundwork to sign him. Now label-mates, their recent recording session prompted Em to schedule an EP release.

The new EP is scheduled to release on June 14, 2011.

Game talks Canada arrest

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Last week, Game was excited about going to Canada for the first time in six years. The Compton rapper was going up North for a short performance. However, upon arriving in Canada, Game was arrested over his passport.

When news hit the media, it was revealed Game was arrested because of his ties to organized crime. Canadian officials could not risk having an international criminal come over. Game was initially supposed to spend two weeks behind bars.

Game ended up only spending two days in jail before he was released. Upon leaving jail, Game went to Lil Wayne's performance in Los Angeles. When he turned his phone on, he had messages from all of his hip hop peers.

After the celebration, Game talked about the situation. He said he was released because he had paid for all of the crimes he committed. Legally, Game could not be held behind bars for past crimes he committed and paid for. Game said the Canadian officials were treating him as if he were a Blood kingpin looking to expand his territory to other areas.

However, this was not the case, as all Game wanted to do was perform his music.

50 Cent talks past Jadakiss feud

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

In 2003, 50 Cent supposedly ended Ja Rule's career. Obviously, the memo was not sent to Murder Inc. In the middle of the G-Unit feud, Ja Rule decided to go back to recording the music that made the fans love him. The result of this was a top five hit, "Wonderful."

The song featured R. Kelly, at the time, the king of the R&B game, fresh off his work with Jay-Z. Ja Rule was back on top of the game and he had even made a song for the streets. Uniting with veteran rappers, Fat Joe and Jadakiss, Rule released "New York."

Before recording the song, Ja Rule extended an invitation to any rapper from New York who wanted to get on the song. After hearing the song and the support for Ja Rule, 50 Cent was highly upset. The entire New York hip hop scene had a part in the video.

50 Cent used this to his advantage when he decided to record his album. On the song "Piggy Bank," 50 went after Ja Rule, Fat Joe, and Jadakiss, along with Nas and Mobb Deep. The song warranted responses from everyone except Rule and Mobb Deep. Soon, 50 Cent found himself in the middle of a bitter feud with not only Jadakiss, but his entire D-Block camp.

For three years, 50 Cent traded disses with Jadakiss before they made a truce in 2007. Soon, Jadakiss became a part of ThisIs50.com and many other 50 Cent ventures. Recently, 50 Cent spoke on their past issues, clearing up any questions. 50 Cent said he and Jadakiss never had any personal issues against each other, it was just a part of the hip hop game.

Because they had no personal issues, it was easy for him to end the feud.

Despite being one of the youngest rappers in the game, Soulja Boy has considered retirement. Ever since he has been releasing albums, each release has been met with negative reviews. Aside from popular singles, Soulja Boy has not sold very well, either.

Soulja Boy was used to all of the negative press, it did not get to him before. The plan was for Soulja Boy to prove all of his critics wrong. Following a sluggish start, his second album did fairly well and Soulja Boy cranked out three hit singles.

But, Soulja Boy intended to truly win fans over with The DeAndre Way album. On this album, Soulja Boy wanted to prove he was more than a pop rapper. Despite his best efforts, Soulja Boy's album was met with negative reviews and record-low sales.

Months after the low-selling album, Soulja Boy suffered the loss of his brother. With everything pounding on him at once, Soulja Boy nearly considered retiring. Apparently, Soulja Boy is past retirement mode, as he is in discussion with Cash Money Records about a development deal.

Rick Ross trying to reach Mogul Status

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Having spent most of his career around Diddy and Jay-Z, Rick Ross is now living up to his debut hit, "Hustlin'." Rick Ross went from being another rapper to the focal point in a matter of months. Realizing what beef has done for rappers like 50 Cent, Ross started and finished a beef with 50 in order to boost his career.

Upon dethroning 50 Cent, Rick Ross branched out and focused on his own projects. Like most rappers, Ross has his own independent record label. The first artist signed to the label was his group, The Triple C's. Ross released their first album through Def Jam and it was a complete flop.

Rick Ross shifted the focus back to his solo career and he had a successful year in 2010 with Teflon Don. Ross used his album to re-launch his Maybach Music label. On the relaunch, Rick Ross added several artists, within weeks of each other, to the label. Along the way, Ross also became a part of a bidding war, eventually shunning his peers to work directly with Warner Bros. Records.

With the new deal intact, Rick Ross is trying to finish his contract with Def Jam. Once he is done there, Ross will likely join his Maybach Music roster and focus on the next phase in his career. Rick Ross is determined to be included in the Hip Hop Cash Kings list. For 2011 headed into 2012, Rick Ross plans on being involved in film projects and possible clothing line ventures. The future seems very bright for Rick Ross and the Maybach Music camp.

Cash Money Records has officially moved into the Big Time

By The Voice
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Over twenty years ago, hip hop became a nationwide movement and areas outside of New York City started movements. New Orleans was among the cities who quickly built a rap scene. Brothers Bryan and Ronald Williams established Cash Money Records in order to capitalize off the local talent.

The brothers took money they had made on the streets and opened an office and a studio in New Orleans. Many local rappers began recording for the label, landing regional hits. Early Cash Money albums were sold in the trunks of cars. While Cash Money Records had a modest growth, cross-town rival, No Limit Records did things big.

Fellow New Orleans native, Percy "Master P" Miller, started his own record label, No Limit Records, a year after Cash Money Records. Master P initially created gangsta rap music in the West Coast, but soon brought the label back home to New Orleans. With no major star to market, P recorded albums, himself, and made modest hits. Soon, he signed family members to the label and established a solid distribution deal with Priority Records, which handled all of his promotion and videos.

Cash Money Records lived under the shadow of No Limit Records from 1992 until 1997. The label was profitable with minor hits from artists such as U.N.L.V. At the time, no one would have predicted the type of hold Cash Money Records would have over the entire hip hop market. The groundwork for this movement began in 1996, when the label signed Juvenile, B.G., Turk, and Lil Wayne. Together, the four young men made up The Hot Boyz.

Bryan Williams, the co-founder of Cash Money Records, soon began his own career as a rapper, serving as a rival to Master P. Naming himself Baby, he teamed up with producer, Mannie Fresh, to form the hit-making duo, Big Tymers. But, it would be the Hot Boyz that helped make Cash Money Records the force it is today. Their 1997 hit, Get It While You Live, helped land Cash Money an exclusive distribution deal with major label, Universal Records, which was more lucrative than No Limit's deal with Priority.

Through the success of the Hot Boyz, the Williams brothers had reached a level they never saw coming. As local businessmen in New Orleans, the two did well as small time label owners. But, when they became a part of Universal, they went national.

At the time, many felt as if Cash Money had reached its peak. The label had a full roster of hitmakers and solid distribution. In the eyes of many, there was not more they could do with what they had.

By the turn of the century, Cash Money Records was proving these doubters right when things began to fall apart. The tight-knit family fell apart when some of the artists accused Baby and Slim, the Williams brothers, of not fully paying royalties. These disputes led to the departure of Juvenile in 2001 and the departure of B.G. in 2002. Lil Wayne remained with the label, even though there were rumors of him not properly being paid. All of the bad publicity left Wayne the only member of the label.

Not only did Juvenile and B.G. leave, they made their dispute with their former bosses public, outing them on
not properly paying royalties. With Lil Wayne being the lone soldier of the Cash Money team, he had to stick up for his "father." It did not take long before a feud erupted between Wayne, Juvenile, and B.G.

In 2004, Lil Wayne assumed his position as the flagship artist of the label with the release of Tha Carter. On this album, Wayne made the bold statement of him being "the best rapper alive." Jay-Z coined this phrase on his final album, The Black Album. The famed rapper intended to retire on top of his game.

Not only did Lil Wayne name himself the best on this album, but he also pleaded with his former partners on "I Miss My Dawgz." Fans loved the song and how Wayne spoke of wanting to reunite with his crew, but B.G. wrote the song off as a publicity stunt and continued to diss his former label. Meanwhile, Juvenile returned to the label to record one more album and to officially end the feud.

With Lil Wayne as the frontman of the label, Cash Money Records was headed in a new direction, but in the eyes of many, they were scrambling to find hits. Lil Wayne was at the peak of his career, while Cash Money was at a new low. But, with their faith in their young star, Cash Money Records was on the track to taking over the game, while pundits were ready to stick a fork in the label. Lil Wayne returned with his most-successful album, at the time, Tha Carter II, and reinvented his entire style.

In 2005, Lil Wayne also launched his own label, named after Cash Money, Young Money. Wayne's label was backed by Cash Money in order for him to develop his own talent. Wayne signed a few minor acts to the label.

Despite the efforts of Lil Wayne, no one took the movement serious. Wayne was only a minor rapper, himself, in a game filled with the 50 Cents and other major stars. Lil Wayne did the impossible in order to take the title as "the best."

Lil Wayne left in the middle of what was then the peak of his career to record mixtapes. Many of his verses were so popular that artists ended up inviting him to record with them. Towards the end of 2006, the new king of collaborations was Lil Wayne.

With the mixtapes coming more and more at the time, Lil Wayne was soon touted by critics as the best rapper in the game. The newfound popularity also helped rebuild interest in Cash Money as the label released three projects in 2006, despite losing Mannie Fresh. Cash Money Records was in the middle of a transition phase and had a roster of new talent they were ready to introduce. Lil Wayne also prepared to introduce the world to his Young Money camp.

In 2008, Lil Wayne released his ever-popular album, Tha Carter III and he officially assumed his role as the face of hip hop. Many felt this was the peak of Lil Wayne's career and the start of a new movement for the rest of the Cash Money label. Baby began going by the moniker of Birdman full time and he also began working on his own solo projects. Cash Money went on a signing frenzy and doubled the number of artists on the roster, even branching out into rock music.

While the world waited on Tha Carter IV, Lil Wayne made other plans in 2009. He intended to release his experimental album, Rebirth, and introduce the world to Young Money. Wayne had signed former television star and mixtape sensation, Drake, along with Nicki Minaj and other talents to the label. Instead of releasing his own album in 2009, Lil Wayne released We Are Young Money for his 2009 album. The reception was mixed, as fans wanted Wayne, but they appreciated the new introductions.

By 2010, Cash Money Records added frequent collaborators, Cool & Dre, a production duo to the label, along with the ever-popular, DJ Khaled. Bow Wow was added to the roster in 2009, along with a few other artists. Bizzy Bone is also in discussions of signing with the label. Currently, Cash Money Records is putting together a lucrative deal for Soulja Boy and his entire Stacks on Deck label to bring them over into the already-large fold.

Ten years ago, it looked as if Bryan and Ronald Williams had reached their peak with Cash Money Records, but they have proven they were just getting started. Now considered the biggest hip hop record label, the next ten years will truly prove how big a hip hop record label can be.

Any time Young Money Entertainment has some sort of news, 50 Cent is the first to comment. Despite his past remarks about Lil Wayne, 50 Cent said he is a very big fan of Drake. Recently, 50 Cent explained the success of his debut album.

50 Cent said the only reason Drake did so well last year was because Lil Wayne was in prison. 50 said Lloyd Banks' debut album would have likely sold 5 million copies had he been in prison during the promotion for the album. At the time of Banks' debut, 50 Cent was the biggest name in rap music, period. Because of his association, Lloyd Banks was able to land a platinum release.

There have been rumors of Lil Wayne and Drake feuding ever since Wayne returned from Riker's Island. When Wayne was released, several websites said the two got into a physical altercation. Only a few weeks ago, there were rumors of Drake being removed from Young Money.

Lloyd Banks talks G-Unit's influence on Hip Hop

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

The days of G-Unit dominating the radio may be over, but the crews who have come out since are still following the model they set. When 50 Cent was blackballed by the industry, he began releasing several mixtapes. Along with the mixtapes, he reelased the Guess Who's Back? street album.

Eminem ended up with a copy of Guess Who's Back? and called Dr. Dre in to hear it. It was only a matter of days before they ended up signing 50 Cent. Through 50 Cent, Eminem and his mentor, Dr. Dre opened up new sources of income. Soon, the entire G-Unit label was added to the Interscope roster.

Nothing is built to last forever and the G-Unit empire seemingly crumbled. But, when people counted them out, Lloyd Banks hit the mixtape scene and re-established his buzz. This led to his 2010 summer hit, "Beamer, Benz, or Bentley." The song led 50 Cent to encourage Banks to record an album, which led to EMI Records offering G-Unit a new deal, thus leaving Interscope Records.

Citing two times the mixtape scene helped G-Unit Records, Lloyd Banks noted how other rappers hit the mixtape scene until they end up being signed. Lil Wayne followed this model in 2006 and has been rap's most dominating figure for nearly five years. The method works and it even gave life to Lloyd Banks' small comeback over the past year.

Mobb Deep considers G-Unit return

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

In 2005, 50 Cent released his diss record, "Piggy Bank." He left no rock unturned in the scathing diss song. "Piggy Bank" included disses to Ja Rule, Fat Joe, Jadakiss, Nas, and 50 made fun of Jay-Z's "Takeover" diss towards Mobb Deep.

Prodigy, of Mobb Deep, was spotted with Game, right after he released his first G-Unit diss. This had all the makings of a major feud between G-Unit and Mobb Deep. But, 50 Cent surprised fans when he signed Mobb Deep.

With this signing, Mobb Deep took on all of G-Unit's feuds, including feuds with Nas and Game. For years, Mobb Deep dissed these two rappers. Game extended an olive branch in 2008 and Mobb Deep was dropped in 2009.

Towards the end of 2009, 50 Cent confirmed Mobb Deep was no longer a part of G-Unit. Earlier this year, it was revealed that Mobb Deep was dropped because Jimmy Iovine forced 50 Cent to get rid of them after their album failed to sell many copies. This, along with a lack of promotion, is why 50 Cent made the decision to leave Interscope Records for a new deal with EMI Records.

Prodigy is now out of prison and he is working on a solo album. The Mobb Deep group, Prodigy and Havoc, are currently working on a new Mobb Deep project. Prodigy said it is very likely that this new project could end up being released on the new G-Unit/EMI label.

Da Brat says Nicki Minaj is leading the Pack

By The Hip Hop Writer

Nicki Minaj has been a hot topic ever since she made her public debut last year. Immediately, she had an enemy with Lil' Kim and the two have traded barbs for nearly a year. Here in the past few months, their feud has finally died down.

With Lil' Kim seemingly out of the picture, Nicki Minaj has been able to provide more focus on her tour. Ever since she and Lil Wayne embarked upon the I Am Music II tour, Nicki Minaj has been on a lap dance spree. Steve Nash was her latest "victim."

Recently, Da Brat, a veteran femcee, was released from prison and she is on the comeback trail. However, unlike a few of the other veterans, she gave Nicki Minaj credit. Da Brat feels like Nicki is holding it down for all of the other female rappers.

In Da Brat's opinion and in the opinion of most fans, Nicki Minaj is leading the pack in the female rap game and she gives her props for reviving a dead sub-genre. Along with admiring her lyrical ability, Da Brat is also a fan of Nicki Minaj's wardrobe choices. Previously, Da Brat said she was not a major fan of the feud between Nicki and Lil' Kim.

Soulja Boy opens up on Losses

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

The past year has been tough on Soulja Boy, as he has suffered various losses. Kat Stacks, a well-known groupie, who claims to have slept with all of Young Money, targeted Soulja Boy. She claimed to have had an affair with Soulja Boy. Stacks also said Soulja Boy was a drug addict.

For the most part, Soulja Boy ignored Kat Stacks and she eventually disappeared. Once she left him alone, Soulja Boy focused on completing his album, The DeAndre Way. Soulja Boy boasted of how this album would show his lyrical side. Along the way, he also dissed Lupe Fiasco.

When The DeAndre Way was released, Soulja Boy was shocked with the low album sales. This shock was nothing in comparison to the loss of his younger brother. His brother died in a car accident last month in Mississippi. Soulja Boy said it was the toughest thing he ever had to go through. He has taken some time off to process the grief.

Recently, Soulja Boy opened up on all of this loss and he credited 50 Cent with helping him sort with a lot of the pain. Even with the pain, Soulja Boy said he was blessed to be in a great position and he is going to continue to push through his pain and make good music.

Curren$y thinks "Weed Rapper" stereotype is Wack

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Hip hop has had classifications for the different types of rappers for several years. While most rappers do smoke marijuana, there are several rappers who rap about smoking, constantly. Curren$y is one of those rappers. These rappers are classified as "weed rappers."

Wiz Khalifa is currently the biggest "weed rapper" in the hip hop game, doing work with Snoop Dogg and other big names. Despite being classified as a "weed rapper," Curren$y thinks the term is wack, within itself.

Curren$y said the term gives hip hop a bad name. Comparing it to the "gangsta rapper" influx a few years ago, Curren$y feels rappers will feel obligated to pretend to be high all the time for deals. When rappers have to pretend, it takes away from the art of the game.
