By 2005, 50 Cent had reached the peak of his career. His "Piggy Bank" diss record gained all kinds of attention. The song was directed at his primary rival, Ja Rule, and his collaborators, Nas, Jadakiss, and Fat Joe and also included a slight diss towards Mobb Deep. A few months later, the Mobb Deep duo of Havoc and Prodigy shocked the world.

Months after being taunted by 50 Cent, they signed with G-Unit Records and began dissing Nas, a longtime collaborator. When they made their move, several rappers began dissing the crew. At the time, teaming up with the G-Unit crew was a smart move. In 2006, Mobb Deep released their album, Blood Money, through the label.

When the album flopped, it was clear something was wrong. Following the flop of Blood Money, Mobb Deep began working on a new album. But, this album was never released. Each time the duo prepared to release their new music, 50 Cent approved, but Interscope Records found a way to delay it. Following the 2007 releases, the only G-Unit artist to release an album was 50 Cent.

During this time, 50 Cent had a falling out with Interscope Records and was looking for a way out. In 2009, it was revealed that 50 Cent was soon going to leave Shady/Aftermath/Interscope. But, the only way for him to move G-Unit Records was to get each artist off Interscope. Mobb Deep was the first to leave, except they were also dropped from the G-Unit label. Because their album did not sell well and three years had passes, the move did not come as much of a surprise.

Recently, Havoc opened up on why Mobb Deep left G-Unit. He announced when Prodigy is released from prison, Mobb Deep would soon be releasing a new album. Havoc said Mobb Deep is still cool with 50, but no longer signed to G-Unit. The decision was not 50 Cent's, instead Interscope Records dropped them from the entire label because the 2006 album did not sell well. Despite not having a label, Havoc said the duo will not remain homeless for long.
