Last summer, Kanye West made a major move when he signed veteran rapper, Pusha T, to G.O.O.D. Music. As a member of the popular duo, The Clipse, Pusha T had been making hits since the summer of 2002. But, the recent years had been very hard on the brothers.
While still a member of The Clipse, Pusha T was focused on solidifying himself as a solo artist. Already having a working relationship with Kanye West, Pusha T felt the best option was to sign with his label. However, signing with G.O.O.D. Music does not necessarily mean signing to a major label.
G.O.O.D. Music has distribution deals with Universal Records, Def Jam, Geffen, Sony, and many other labels. Earlier this week, Kanye West decided to organize things. Having spent his entire career recording with Def Jam, Kanye West decided to bring his label home. He entered an exclusive distribution deal with Def Jam, since he and Big Sean were already signed there.
Now a member of Def Jam, Pusha T spoke on the new deal. Pusha T said he feels as if there will be nothing but success, now that G.O.O.D. Music is under Def Jam. For years, the label was successful, without even having a secured distribution deal. With everything organized and all of the artists using the same channel of distribution, Pusha T feels as if they will fit well with the Def Jam machine. Kanye West has been among the biggest artists on Def Jam since the departure of Jay-Z.
With G.O.O.D. Music now under Def Jam, the label will likely receive much of Def Jam's attention the same way Roc-A-Fella Records did during its heyday.
