With the release of Tha Carter IV, Lil Wayne was expected to easily dominate the charts. Ever since he announced the albums, fans have been patiently waiting. When the album was finally released, immediately after the VMAs, fans began buying.

Despite the album being expected to easily take the top spot on the charts, it was not expected to sell as well as Tha Carter III. Lil Wayne had already told his team not to worry about the first week sales. It was then when the projections were announced.

Tha Carter IV was originally projected to sell between 700,000 and 850,000 copies in its first week on shelves. Now, this projection has been increased and the album will now likely sell between 870,000 and 900,000 copies in its first week. From the way it seems, Tha Carter IV will be the highest-selling hip hop album of the year.
