Fredro Starr talks Layzie Bone collaboration

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Last month, Fredro Starr announced he and Layzie Bone were working on a collaborative album. The two, while members of different groups, have known each other for nearly two decades. The two rappers, now in full control of their respective careers, are coming together for a joint album.

Fredro Starr recently explained how things came together. The two rappers met in the early 1990s and they have gone through similar problems. Both Fredro Starr and Layzie Bone lost their mentors long before their prime. Fredro Starr lost Jam Master Jay, while Layzie Bone lost Eazy-E.

Each time he is around Layzie Bone, Fredro Starr said it is like a game of basketball. Bone Thugz N Harmony and Onyx were always competitive. Fredro Starr's friend, Maybach Dice, was in the studio with Layzie Bone and Fredro Starr was also there. This led to the recording of "Going in For the Kill," which eventually led to a fll album between Fredro Starr and Layzie Bone.

The joint album is to be released sometime in 2012.

Quickly, the two rappers created their own label, Feed Da Wolves Entertainment. Through this new label, both rappers have been releasing their work in independent shops, online, and to street vendors. Even though their videos have yet to make it to popular outlest, such as BET and MTV, Bang 'Em Smurf and Domination have still done well.

Currently, Bang 'Em Smurf is working on his next project, a mixtape called Blacklisted. This mixtape will deal with what has happened since his prison sentence and the following deportation back to his native, Trinidad. In his time back home, Smurf has been working with local artists and throwing shows. The main two artists he works with is a newcomer, Young Dice. On the mixtape, though, work has come from Rick Ross and Fredro Starr.

The first single from the mixtape, "Man's Man," has been released to several hip hop websites.
