Before Jay-Z left Roc-A-Fella Records, he had plans of making Young Chris the next face of the label. Chris had been signed with the Roc for four years at the time. But, he was only one half of the duo, Young Gunz. The duo had one hit, "Can't Stop/Won't Stop," and they were forgotten.

However, on the mixtape scene, Young Chris shined and Jay-Z was watching. But, in 2008, an offer was given to Jay-Z that he could not refuse. He landed the deal with Live Nation which led to the creation of Roc Nation. Following this deal, Young Chris hinted towards signing with the label.

But, after seeing how long J. Cole has been waiting to release his album, Young Chris decided to wait. Instead, he signed with Rico Love's Division1 label. Rico Love, himself, has a lucrative deal with powerhouse label, Universal Motown. Young Chris looked completely past Roc Nation and went ahead and signed with Division1.

Looking back on the move, Young Chris said it was one of the smartest moves he pulled off. He said he does not regret this deal at all. The reason Young Chris signed so easily with Rico Love was because he was so talented. Young Chris said the chemistry the two have is undeniable. With such strong chemistry, he could not waste any time putting together this deal. He already feels as if he has missed out on valuable time and he does not want to miss any more. Sometime next year, Young Chris wants to release his debut album.
