This year, Tyler, the Creator has introduced himself to the world and has proven to be a different type of person. While rap music is known as offensive, he takes things to a higher level. Tyler, the Creator is known for making homophobic statements. When asked why he does such things, Tyler says it is for shock value.

Bruno Mars has been one of Tyler, the Creator's biggest targets since he has made it big. During each of his times in front of the camera at the VMAs, Tyler had a negative statement for Bruno Mars. Each time he was in front of the camera, Tyler made a homophobic statement. It was great for shock value, but now it has consequences.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation issued a statement against Tyler, the Creator and MTV. During the ceremony, Tyler was awarded as 'Best New Artist.' Because of his conduct during the show, GLAAD feels Tyler, the Creator should not have been given an award. Instead, GLAAD feels MTV should be educating their young viewers on homophobia and look for more deserving artists.
