J. Cole talks former stage name, "Therapist"

Before he was known as J. Cole, the Fayetteville, NC rapper went by a different moniker. When he first began rapping, J. Cole was known as Therapist. However, he soon ended up dropping the name.

J. Cole said he was given the name, Therapist, by his mentor. He was given a name and everyone like it. For that lone reason, J. Cole went by the name Therapist for years. But, he decided to change it when he got older.

When asked if he would change his name again, J. Cole said he would not because this name fits him. His Therapist name did not fit him. Instead, J. Cole said it reminded him too much of a wrestling name.
