Dr. Dre talks collaborations with Kendrick Lamar and Slim the Mobster
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer
Once, he was one of the biggest artists in the game. Dr. Dre was always in the news, on hip hop television programs, and releasing music. Over the years, Dr. Dre allowed himself to fade from the spotlight. In his place, Dr. Dre has helped several talented artists become stars.
With Eminem, 50 Cent, and Game all well-known and respected members of the hip hop community, Dr. Dre is building more stars. Late last year, Dr. Dre promised fans he would finally release Detox. Snoop Dogg recently announced the album was being mixed and would soon be released.
Aside from his own music, Dr. Dre said he has been working with two talented artists. Working with Kendrick Lamar and Slim the Mobster, both West Coast artists, Dre said they would be his final collaborations for several years. Dr. Dre said he is focused on making sure their music comes out right before he goes on another hiatus. Read more...

Snoop Dogg talks "Detox" and Eminem
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer
For well over a decade, there has been a lot of discussion about the long-awaited Detox album from Dr. Dre. Among the closest people to Dr. Dre while recording have been Game, Snoop Dogg, and Kendrick Lamar. After releasing two albums in two years, Eminem is apparently on hiatus, as he is also very close to Dr. Dre.
Recently, Kendrick Lamar discussed Detox, informing the people the album was in its mixing phases. For well over ten years, the album has been coming "very soon." Seven years ago, Eminem rapped of the album possibly coming in 2006. Last fall and this winter, fans came the closest to hearing Detox.
After "Kush" and "I Need a Doctor" faded away, the Detox stories did too. Snoop Dogg was asked about Detox and he said the album would be here soon enough. According to Snoop Dogg, the album is nearing completion and Eminem will be a part of the album. While Snoop Dogg said Eminem would be a part of the album, he did not explain how much of a part he would contribute. Read more...

Album Review: 9th Wonder - "The Wonder Years"
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer
Outside of J. Cole, not many people are aware of the hip hop scene in North Carolina. Because North Carolina is in the South, most expect the typical Southern sound. However, this is not the case. 9th Wonder was among the many North Carolina rappers releasing their debut albums.
9th Wonder continues to buck the trends, on his album. Already a famous producer, 9th Wonder proves he is no slouch behind the microphone either. While his album likely will not receive the same commercial support as other artists, it is definitely worth a listen. 9th Wonder's best talent is his ability to fuse different genres of hip hop together.
One of the best tracks off The Wonder Years is "Enjoy," which features Warren G, Murs, and Kendrick Lamar, as 9th Wonder is able to switch it up and come with a West Coast flow. 9th Wonder proves he is one of the most-versatile rappers in the game with his debut album. Many rappers love rapping over R&B beats, but few actually master this. Not only does 9th Wonder master rapping over an R&B beat, he also holds his own against veteran rappers, Raekwon and Masta Killa.
The Wonder Years is a creative opus and it is obvious 9th Wonder put in the quality time and effort in order to make this album happen. While other albums may be better, few will have the sheer sincerity of the debut album from 9th Wonder. Years from now, or possibly sooner, hip hop critics will hail The Wonder Years as one of hip hop's classic albums.
Hip Hop Vibe's Rating: 8/10 Read more...

Kendrick Lamar talks Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and His Own Music
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer
The West Coast hip hop scene is buzzing for the first time in years. Over the past few years, the West Coast has not had much going for them outside of Game and Snoop Dogg. But, 2011 has been a breakthrough year for the West.
Among the artists out West to gain national attention this year, have been Tyler, the Creator, Jay Rock, and Kendrick Lamar. The past year has been incredible for Kendrick Lamar, as he has worked with Dr. Dre, among other veterans.
Much like Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar grew up in Compton, so the West Coast is definitely in his blood. Growing up in the same town as Dr. Dre and following his music led Kendrick Lamar to another pioneer, Snoop Dogg.
Now a grown man, Kendrick Lamar has followed in their footsteps and is now poised to become one of the most-popular rappers in the game. With this, he now has personal relationships with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, who have severed as mentor-like figures in his career. Kendrick Lamar praised them for all the help they have provided to him.
While he has worked with the legends, Kendrick Lamar is still highly focused on his own music. One thing he likes about current hip hop is the fact that everyone is now an individual, as opposed to trying to be like someone else. However, Kendrick Lamar is not a fan of the label politics. When speaking on his own music, he feels as if it is undefined. Read more...
