During the late 1990s, Eve rose to fame as the lone female member of the Ruff Ryders. The crew gained fame behind the hardcore lyrics from DMX. X was known for telling the stories of the streets and Eve joined him as his ride or die chick.
Eve quickly became the most popular female rapper in the game. Her style was different from Lil' Kim's because her lyrics were more hardcore than those of the Brooklyn femcee. While she loved her style, things have changed and so has Eve.
Nine years have passed since Eve last released an album. She has starred in her own sitcom and launched two clothing lines. For nearly four years, Eve has been trying to get back in the game. Finally ready, she wants to come with a different style.
No longer a young girl, Eve wants to present a new style to represent her current outlook on life. Eve mentioned she was no longer on Ruff Ryders and she has moved on. Her music is not rough like it once was and she said her 2007 hit, "Tambourine," was completely different from her old style. Eve said she hates her old style because it is not her anymore and her new music will reflect the change.
