Before meeting Kanye West, Big Sean was a street rapper and often battle rapped. Big Sean had entered a rap battle contest and the grand prize was a deal with Shady Records. Along the way, Sean's popularity grew and a radio station began supporting him.

Through this radio station, Big Sean was able to meet Kanye West. In this span of time, West decided to Big Sean. From there, the rest has been history. After two years of being on the label, Big Sean is preparing his debut album.

Big Sean still competed in the tournament and made it all of the way to the final round. Even though he came up short, Shady Records said they would be in contact with him. Shady Records did not keep contact with Big Sean, so he signed with G.O.O.D. Music.
