By The Hip Hop Writer

Currently, Big Sean is touring the world since he finally released his debut album, Finally Famous: The Album. While it took two years for Big Sean to gain a release date, it was well worth the wait. In the eyes of many, Big Sean is the biggest new star in the game. His music has grown very popular with fans.

Big Sean is taking advantage of this opportunity, already recording a new album. Before the end of 2012, Big Sean plans to release his second album. Not only does Big Sean want to have his album out before the end of 2012, he wants to have the album released early in the year.

Still, none of this will stop him from the task at hand, getting his new music out to the fans. Before he releases his next album, Big Sean will release his mixtape with Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y.

Big Sean said the trio has recorded several songs, which will be used for the mixtape. However, he did not reveal when the mixtape was coming or what to expect.

Jay-Z and Kanye West sued over "Watch the Throne" sample

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

For a brief moment, Jay-Z and Kanye West breathed new life into hip hop, quickly becoming the focal point. During the summer, the duo released their Watch the Throne album. Their run, however, was short-lived as Lil Wayne released Tha Carter IV weeks later.

Now, Jay-Z is in the news more for Beyonce's baby bump and J. Cole than for his own work. Kanye West has faded into the background, as he continues to unleash Big Sean on the world. The Throne, however, is now back in the headlines.

Their song, "The Joy," contains a sample from soul veteran, Syl Johnson. The song uses elements of his 1967 single, "Different Strokes." Johnson filed his suit in Illinois on October 13. Lawyers for The Throne said they tried to sample the song for Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. The song ended up not being used on that album, so they kept it for Watch the Throne.

Syl Johnson claimed they never contacted him about sampling the song and he wants to impound all copies of Watch the Throne. Along with stopping distribution of the album, Johnson wants to receive full accounting of sales and publishing proceeds, along with punitive damages.

Album Preview: Wale - "Ambition"

By Hardcore Critic
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Two years have passed since Wale released Attention Deficit. The release of his debut album showed Wale's rise from the underground to becoming a real force in the game. Before Wale, the Washington, DC hip hop scene was basically nonexistent.

While Attention Deficit was met with rave reviews, the album was a commercial flop. Interscope Records was the label behind the album release. Disappointed with the reaction to his album, Wale found a way to get off the label.

Throughout 2010, Wale was a free agent, hoping to get signed to another major label. Rick Ross, who had already tried to sign Wiz Khalifa, said he may sign Wale to Maybach Music. Known for boasting, many took the comments by Rick Ross as nothing more than him talking big. However, early in 2011, Wale announced he had signed with Maybach Music.

During the promotional run for the Maybach Music album, Wale announced he had a new album of his own in the works, possibly two. So far, three singles have been released from the album, "Bad Girls Club," "Chain Music," and "Lotus Flower Bomb." Wale plans to continue with the themes of his debut album, while adding the flavor of his new crew, as well.

Wale's current radio hit, "That Way," will be featured on Ambition.

Track listing

  1. "Don't Hold Your Applause"
  2. "Double M Genius"
  3. "Miami Nights"
  4. "Legendary"
  5. "Lotus Flower Bomb" ft. Miguel
  6. "Sabotage" ft. Lloyd

Big Sean talks Nicki Minaj doing "Ass (remix)"

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Last week, Big Sean made major headlines when a remix to his popular track, "Ass," leaked to the internet. The remix featured a verse from Nicki Minaj. Initially, many assumed it was an unofficial remix. However, the remix has been sent to the radio as an official single off Big Sean's Finally Famous: The Album.

Many have since questioned how Big Sean and Nicki Minaj teamed up for the record. It turns out, Nicki Minaj was already a major fan of the song. Knowing this, Big Sean called her to see if she wanted to be featured on the remix. Upon being asked about the collaboration, the femcee quickly agreed.

Big Sean also revealed he and Nicki Minaj are great friends, all music aside. With "Ass" already receiving radio play, Kevin Liles and Sean's manager told him to find someone to do a remix. The remix would then be used as the official radio single. With his relationship with Nicki Minaj and her love for the song, connecting the dots was an easy feat.

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Recently, Maino was in an interview and he was talking about beef in the rap game. During the interview, Maino questioned who he would beef with, Wiz Khalifa, or Big Sean (referring to him as Lil Sean). It was then when most felt the beef had started.

Last week, the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards were taped. There were rumors of Big Sean and Maino having an altercation on the red carpet. Because of the previous comments, many felt there was more beef than discussion.

Clearing up the rumors, Big Sean said he and Maino do not have any issues with each other. On the red carpet, Maino walked up to Big Sean and said he has nothing but love and respect for him. Big Sean said he was glad he came to him, as a man, and cleared things up.

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Living out a dream, Big Sean reflects on how far he has come. This summer, Big Sean released his debut album, Finally Famous, and has become one of the biggest names in hip hop. Long before he was releasing hit singles, Big Sean was in Detroit, working on mixtape tracks with Mike Posner.

Big Sean spoke on working with Mike Posner on his first mixtape and how long they have been friends. Since both of them have become very successful, Big Sean said it is good to have friends while being on top of the game. Speaking on Mike Posner, Big Sean said they are very good friends.

Before making it big, Big Sean discussed how he and Mike Posner would work on tracks in Posner's mother's basement. Big Sean explained his difference between mixtapes and albums. Mixtapes are more of a final exam, while albums are more of a graduation, of sorts. On mixtapes, there is not much structure and no pressure to make hits, but on albums there are many expecations.

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Finally releasing his debut album, Big Sean is not wasting any time with his new projects. Only months after the release of his debut album, Big Sean announced he was working on his second album. In addition to his next album, Big Sean also discussed working on a project with Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y.

During the peak of the summer, a number of track leaked featuring the three rappers. But, over the past two months, nothing has come from the trio. Cyhi da Prynce names album "The Hard Way Musical"

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Following the success of Big Sean and the new deal with Def Jam, Kanye West is preparing to develop more artists on his G.O.O.D. Music roster. The next rapper up to release an album is Cyhi da Prynce, G.O.O.D. Music's Atlanta representative.

Cyhi da Prynce has been featured on a number of mixtape songs and on Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Now, he is preparing the release of his own album. Cyhi da Prynce said he has started working on his debut album and it will be out very soon.

Aside from his album, Cyhi da Prynce also discussed his upcoming mixtape with DJ Scream and DJ Spinz. Cyhi da Prynce announced his new mixtape as Jack of All Trades. The mixtape has that title because Cyhi raps over a number of other people's tracks.

Because Cyhi da Prynce shows he can handle all of those different styles, he calls himself the "jack of all trades." Now, Cyhi da Prynce is taking things to the next level and he is coming out with his debut album, which he says will be called The Hard Way Musical. Kanye West will serve as the executive producer of the album.

Big Sean talks repping Detroit

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

The year of 2011 has been another great year for the Detroit hip hop scene. However, for the first time since D12 last released an album, the focal point is not on Eminem. Even during D12's run, the primary focus was Eminem. Instead, Big Sean is the new voice from Detroit.

Big Sean has been signed to Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music for two years. After two years of waiting to release his album, Big Sean finally put it out this summer. The album has been fueled by his "My Last" hit single with Chris Brown.

Being from Detroit has been a badge of honor for Big Sean. When he returned to the city, after promoting his album, he was awarded the keys of the city. This reward made his grandmother, with whom he is very close with, very happy.

Big Sean said he is happy to be able to become a vessel for Detroit hip hop and to carry the legacy.

Big Sean already preparing Sophomore Album

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

It may have taken two years for Big Sean to land a solid release date for his debut album, but it will not take as long for his next album to come out. Among 2011's breakout stars is Big Sean and it is primarily due to his Chris Brown-assisted single, "My Last."

Since "My Last" has become a major hit, Big Sean has collaborated with Kelly Rowland, among other artists. This summer, Big Sean released his long-awaited album, Finally Famous: The Album. In only a few months since the album's release, he is already back at it.

Big Sean has been working with Exile and is preparing his sophomore album. The Detroit rapper said he has a studio on his tour bus and he will record while on tour. Without giving a solid release date, Big Sean said the album will be out, hopefully, before the end of next summer.

While he only has one song, Big Sean said that one song will grow into twelve, thirteen, or possibly more songs.  Big Sean said he wants to come out with an album the people will love. Not only does he want radio singles, he wants club tracks, and music that inspires people.

Big Sean congratulates Lil Wayne for "Tha Carter IV" record sales

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

While in the midst of his own problems, Big Sean is still pressing forward with his career. Finally releasing his debut album, Big Sean is experiencing tremendous success. The G.O.O.D. Music rapper was asked, earlier this year, how he felt Tha Carter IV would sell.

In the wake of Tha Carter IV selling nearly 1 million copies in its first week, Big Sean was floored. Big Sean told Rap Up TV he projected the album to sell 500,000 copies the first week. However, the fact it sold nearly 1 million is impressive.

Big Sean offered a congratulations to Lil Wayne for dominating the game, once again. Numbers like Wayne's in the first week have inspired Big Sean. He said he hopes to sell 1 million copies during the first week with his albums, as well.
