The future of the West Coast has been firmly placed on the shoulders of the young Kendrick Lamar. Before the release of his debut album, the Compton rapper has co-signs from Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Game. For years, the hip hop scene out West has been struggling. Many have been looking for new life out West.

Kendrick Lamar has emerged as the front-runner in this contest. He and fellow young West Coast rapper, Jay Rock, have been collaborating on several projects. Actually, the two rappers have known of each other for years, as they attended the same high school. However, they did not officially meet until they were in the studio together and they collaborated.

Now, Kendrick Lamar and Jay Rock are the best of friends. While both rappers have major buzz, Kendrick Lamar has been chosen as the leader of the "New West." When asked if he felt any pressure about this, Kendrick Lamar said he did not, as he is continuing to record new music. Kendrick Lamar said he is a "mature artist," unlike many other young rappers, so titles do not go to his head.
