Nicki Minaj the subject of Drake's "Make Me Proud" [AUDIO]
By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer
Well over a year ago, Drake proclaimed his love for Nicki Minaj on record. The two were even married for a day. Nicki Minaj claimed Drake was only joking about his love for her. But, earlier today, Drake said Nicki is possibly the only woman who could love him.
Regardless of Nicki's feelings, Drake bigs her up on his latest Take Care leak, "Make Me Proud." Drake said the song is for women, as a whole, to show his appreciation. The song is a different way for Drake to express his affection for beautiful women.
Drake said it is hard to be a woman out there, now-a-days, so the record is him saying he appreciates the women for trying. It is especially hard for the pretty and independent women, much like Nicki. Drake said the record is not just for Nicki Minaj, but all women trying to go after something on their own. Drake is proud of any woman he has ever known for doing their thing.
Drake will be performing "Make Me Proud" on October 15 on "Saturday Night Live."

Drake talks Dating Rihanna and Marrying Nicki Minaj
By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer
The year of 2009 was one of transition for hip hop. For the past five years, rappers relied less and less on lyrics. Socially, hip hop had grown used to several couples, many of which, broke up. Chris Brown and Rihanna, while R&B and Pop artists, respectively, are a part of the hip hop community.
For two years, they had been publicly dating and appeared to be the model teenage couple. However, the two actually had an abusive relationship, which the whole world learned of. A public fight on the day of the Grammys forced Chris Brown and Rihanna to break up.
Moving on from Chris Brown, Rihanna began dating mixtape rapper, Drake. At the time, Drake was probably best-known for his role on "Degrassi." Drake was being courted by several labels and close to signing with Young Money. While his career took off, his relationship with Rihanna did not.
Drake said he would never blame what happened between them on Rihanna, but he was hurt when he realized it was not a deep relationship. Rihanna was the first famous female to pay any attention to Drake and he was drawn by that. When he began to realize what their relationship actually was, a rebound, it hurt him, but he was able to move forward. Drake said he used to see her in magazines, when he was still new to the game, and they met during a birthday party.
After moving on from Rihanna, Drake rapped about his love for Nicki Minaj on "Miss Me." Last year, the two were married for a day. Their marriage, which was a publicity stunt, is something Drake thinks could last, if tried again. Drake said Nicki Minaj is probably the only woman who understands him and who could one day love him. Read more...

Big Sean talks Nicki Minaj doing "Ass (remix)"
By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer
Last week, Big Sean made major headlines when a remix to his popular track, "Ass," leaked to the internet. The remix featured a verse from Nicki Minaj. Initially, many assumed it was an unofficial remix. However, the remix has been sent to the radio as an official single off Big Sean's Finally Famous: The Album.
Many have since questioned how Big Sean and Nicki Minaj teamed up for the record. It turns out, Nicki Minaj was already a major fan of the song. Knowing this, Big Sean called her to see if she wanted to be featured on the remix. Upon being asked about the collaboration, the femcee quickly agreed.
Big Sean also revealed he and Nicki Minaj are great friends, all music aside. With "Ass" already receiving radio play, Kevin Liles and Sean's manager told him to find someone to do a remix. The remix would then be used as the official radio single. With his relationship with Nicki Minaj and her love for the song, connecting the dots was an easy feat. Read more...

Drake is putting the finishing touches on "Take Care"
By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer
Fresh off the mixtape scene, Drake headed straight over to Young Money. After being signed to the label for a year, Drake released Thank Me Later, living up to the hype. Fans immediately wanted to hear more from Drake.
A little over a year later, Drake is preparing to release his second album, Take Care. Drake said his second album was inspired by Lil Wayne. Speaking on Lil Wayne, Drake said it was a major blow to Young Money when he went to prison, but he was glad he and Nicki Minaj were able to keep things going during Wayne's time away.
While recording this album, Drake has been with Lil Wayne and his work ethic has inspired him to go ten times harder than his hardest. Drake said he has enjoyed recording Take Care alongside his brothers, Wayne and Rick Ross. Speaking on his brothers, Drake said they work non-stop, so if he decides to have a little fun, it feels like he is slipping. In New York City, Drake is currently mastering his new album and talking with his team about the final product.
There have only been a few leaks off Take Care, so the public does not know what to expect from Drake's second opus. Read more...

Is French Montana the next King of New York?
By Hardcore Critic
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer
New York is where hip hop was born. For decades, New York single-handedly dominated the rap game. However, in the late 1980s, the West Coast took over the game. New York hip hop suffered until the 1994 emergence of The Notorious B.I.G. and Bad Boy Records.
Following the feud between the East and West Coast, New York hip hop continued to dominate. However, in the 2000s, Southern hip hop emerged and took over the game. For well over ten years, the South has dominated because of their unity.
The problems in the New York hip hop scene have been magnified, but the West Coast was also struggling, until recently. Aside from the veterans, no New York rappers are having success. Papoose, Mims, and Saigon have been among the names picked to revive the mecca.
Papoose and Saigon both met their downfalls when they could not secure release dates. Mims, on the other hand, had a fast start, but quickly evaporated. Currently, New York hip hop is being held up by Nicki Minaj, best-known as a part of Young Money. Recently, Papoose returned to the headlines when he proclaimed himself as the king of New York.
Bad Boy rapper, Red Cafe, rebuffed those claims, saying Papoose does not have enough buzz to even be considered in the running for king of New York. While Red Cafe is signed to Bad Boy Records and has such stars as Akon, among others, in his corner, he does not have much buzz, either. French Montana, on the other hand, is making the most buzz, both in and out of New York.
Currently in talks of signing with Maybach Music, French Montana has taken several flights back and forth to the city of Miami to speak with Rick Ross. Even if he does not sign with Maybach Music, French Montana is working with the top DJs, producers, and executives in the game. If being the king of New York is simply based off buzz and popularity, French Montana is easily the king of New York. Read more...

Rick Ross talks New Projects, working with Just Blaze, and More
By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer
Rick Ross has dominated 2011, even without releasing an album of his own. Three months after establishing the distribution deal with Warner Bros. Records, Rick Ross released Self Made, Vol. 1 with his Maybach Music team. For Ross, that was just the beginning, as he has more releases on the way.
Before he even began adding artists to Maybach Music, Rick Ross revealed he was working on his fifth studio album. The new album is boldly titled God Forgives, I Don't. Rick Ross usually releases his albums before or during the summer. This summer was a usual Rick Ross summer, but his album did not come.
Rick Ross mentioned the album during Meek Mill's video shoot, saying it was coming soon. Both DJ Khaled and Drake said the album was a classic. This week, Rick Ross released two singles from the album, both featuring Nicki Minaj. With the singles, it was announced God Forgives, I Don't would be released on December 13.
Aside from his album, Rick Ross said he would likely release a new mixtape soon. In addition to releasing a new mixtape, Rick Ross also said he wants to do another Maybach Music album before the end of 2011. Referencing his album, Rick Ross said it would be his biggest album, to date. Previously, Rick Ross has stated the album would make him the biggest rapper in the game. One of Ross' singles, "I Love My Bitches," was produced by Just Blaze and Ross said he worked with him to bring back the 90s hip hop sound. Read more...

Nicki Minaj spills on her Sophomore LP
By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer
Last year, fans did not learn of Pink Friday until the album was right around the corner. Nicki Minaj built so much buzz, due to her collaborations with Ludacris and Usher, which were followed by her hit single, "Your Love." This momentum had Nicki Minaj more popular than Drake, who had released an album.
Upon releasing her debut album, Nicki Minaj broke records for female rappers, which had remained for decades. After her debut album, Nicki Minaj fans were already wanting to hear her next album. The entire Cash Money label is preparing to release new albums this year. Currently, the label is pushing Drake and his upcoming Take Care.
While the focus is on Drake, Nicki Minaj is also working on her new album. Nicki Minaj briefly spoke on her new album during the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards and revealed her Roman Zolanski personality would be featured heavily. Following her performance, over the weekend, Nicki Minaj again stated most of her new songs would be from Roman's point of view. Read more...
