Nicki Minaj releases Lil' Kim diss, "Tragedy"

Yesterday, major news broke regarding the ongoing feud between female rappers, Nicki Minaj and Lil' Kim. After trading disses for nearly six months, the ladies agreed to end their feud. However, today, a new track from Nicki Minaj sounds very contradicting.

Lil' Kim attempted to broker peace with Nicki Minaj during the fall season of 2010. She said she would no longer release records disrespecting Nicki Minaj. One week after the announcement, Nicki released her "Roman's Revenge" record, re-igniting the feud.

However, this time around, Nicki Minaj and Lil' Kim met in person to settle their differences. Members of both their crews said it would be beneficial to make peace. Both women even said they had much respect for the other.

This is why Nicki Minaj's new song, "Tragedy," comes off as such as surprise. Nicki Minaj calls Lil' Kim out, comparing her career to the popularity of Shaquille O'Neal and Penny Hardaway of the Orlando Magic during the 1990s. She says Kim is like the present-day version of Shaq and Penny. Nicki also taunts Kim for using PayPal to sell copies of her Black Friday mixtape.

Funkmaster Flex assumes the lyrics will be a part of Nicki Minaj's verse on Tha Carter IV.

Since her record label will not give her a release date for her long-awaited fifth album, Lil' Kim has taken matters into her own hands. Last summer, Nicki Minaj caught worldwide attention and she rubbed Lil' Kim the wrong way. Before the end of the summer, Kim was dissing Nicki Minaj every chance she got.

Nicki Minaj initially said she would not give Lil' Kim a response because she had so much respect for her. But, Lil' Kim continued to push her until Nicki broke. In October 2010, Lil' Kim said she was done dissing Nicki Minaj. Almost a month later, Nicki responded with "Roman's Revenge."

After releasing her first diss record, Nicki Minaj went back to focusing on Pink Friday. Lil' Kim recorded another diss record, this one called "Black Friday." The song was so popular that she felt the need to film a video for the song and make it a part of an entire mixtape. Lil' Kim has been working on a new diss mixtape, Black Friday, and she is creeping up on the release date.

Initially, the mixtape was to be free, but Lil' Kim is now charging $9.99 for the tape. She wants to become the next rapper to make a million off a mixtape. Before her Young Money days, Nicki Minaj's Beam Me Up Scotty mixtape made her a million dollars. Given her legendary status, Lil' Kim hopes Black Friday can do the same thing for her.

For most of 2010, Nicki Minaj has been the only female voice in the rap community. She was already popular on the mixtape scene over the past two years. But, Nicki Minaj shot to international fame after doing "My Chick Bad" and "Lil' Freak."

Soon, Nicki Minaj was back in the headlines when Lil' Kim dissed her for not paying homage. Ironically, Nicki Minaj stated multiple times that she admired Lil' Kim. But, this did not stop her idol from beating up on her throughout the summer.

Lil' Kim called a truce in October 2010 and said she was moving on with her career. Right when Lil' Kim called a truce, Nicki Minaj hit back. She released "Roman's Revenge" with Eminem and re-ignited the feud.

Nicki Minaj said her only regret with Pink Friday was not being able to feature Lil Wayne. Recently, he fixed the situation when he recorded a verse for the remix of the song. His verse avoids dissing Lil' Kim, but he continues his lyrical assault, which began late in 2006. There have been rumors of a remix to this song ever since Lil Wayne came out of prison. Yesterday, Lil Wayne ended the speculation and put it down.
