Method Man to sever ties with Marijuana

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Rappers such as Method Man and Snoop Dogg helped to pave the way for the "weed rap" sub-genre of hip hop. Both artists have been able to cross over, while still remaining true to the weed. Meth, himself, starred in the How High movie with Redman, which is about marijuana.

Method Man has almost become synonymous with marijuana smoking. Despite this, he is looking to change his image. Not helping matters is Method Man being a part of the Smoker's Club tour with Curren$y and Big K.R.I.T. Method Man is leaving the weed alone, happy to pass the torch to Wiz Khalifa.

The reason Method Man is giving up marijuana is because of his children. During his interview with VIBE, Method Man said he did not want people to automatically think of weed when they thought of him. Method Man said there is much more to him than that, but he is not entirely leaving the culture, he is simply leaving the forefront. People always assume Method Man is high, when he is not, so he is making a change.

Method Man primarily wants Tyler, the Creator to produce a track for him. When asked if he wanted vocals, Meth said he would leave that up to him. Method Man said he makes the kind of beats he likes, but he said Odd Future is nothing like Wu-Tang.

Method Man talks Wu-Tang performances and Dr. Dre collaboration [VIDEO]

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

In 1993, the world met the Wu-Tang Clan and they have been hooked ever since. Method Man quickly became the most-popular rapper in the outfit. Over the past ten years, Wu-Tang rappers have been involved in many other activites, aside from rap.

Many Wu-Tang rappers are filming movies, and working on other projects. When Wu-Tang has live performances, it is rare for the entire crew to be present. Method Man said this is because of their other ventures, such as RZA shooting a movie and missed the crew's European tour.

Method Man also discussed his 2002 collaboration with Dr. Dre. It was a track in which Meth said Dr. Dre must have not really been feeling. Dr. Dre is different when he is in the studio, says Meth, he said Dr. Dre wants everyone to be ready to record. Xzibit came in, ready to record and Method Man admitted he was a little wasted.

Still, Method Man says he would jump at the chance to work with Dr. Dre again.

Method Man compares Shyheim to Lil Wayne

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Currently, Method Man is recording with Shyheim on a collaborative album. The two have known each other for some time and Method Man believes he can take the game over. During a recording session, Meth took a break and discussed Shyheim.

Method Man said if Shyheim had the same breaks Lil Wayne had, he would be on the same level. His reason for making the comparison is because he said Shyheim and Lil Wayne are the same type of artist. Just like Lil Wayne growing up, Meth sees the same with Shyheim.

Shyheim was one of the youngest Wu-Tang affiliates and has released five studio albums. On the collaborative side of things, Shy is currently recording with Method Man. Their album does not have a set release date.

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

The last time Wu-Tang Clan released an album was in 2007. Their first album in six years, fans were excited when Method Man announced it. Only months after the album was announced, it was released.

Much like the previous Wu-Tang Clan albums, 8 Diagrams was met with positive reviews. Once again, they left fans wanting more. However, all of the members took time off to work on their solo albums.

Raekwon has released two successful albums since the last album. However, Rae recently revealed he is back in the studio with the crew. Raekwon said it is too early to announce the title of the album.

Method Man embraces his Dark Side on "The Crystal Meth"

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

When he first came into the game, Method Man was considered one of the more hardcore rappers. But, over the years, Meth mellowed out. His music became comical, at times, and he built a more mainstream following.

However, following the release of his last album, 4:21... The Day After, in 2006, fans and critics were disappointed. Towards the end of 2007, Method Man announced his next solo album, tentatively titled Crystal Method.

The album's title has been changed to The Crystal Meth and release dates have come and gone since 2007. His upcoming album has been the cause of many insults because of numerous delays. In response to this, Method Man has lashed out.

Method Man said he does not give a fuck about what anyone had to say about his album because he was going to take his time. The Wu-Tang leader said he will let this album age like fine wine and release it when the time is right. Also, for those who think he has gone soft over the past few years, Method Man promised to return to his dark roots on his latest album.

Method Man discusses problems with New Artists

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

When it comes to lyrical ability, Method Man is ranked among the top. In recent years, he has been known for his partnership with Redman. But, long before teaming up with Red, Meth was the frontman of the Wu-Tang Clan. In the time since Method Man entered the game, many changes have taken place.

Over the years, trends have come and gone in the game. A few years ago, the auto-tune had taken over hip hop. T-Pain was responsible for the takeover. But, after he took a break from making music, the auto-tune went away. Recently, T-Pain announced his comeback and the other artists are ready.

As these movements have come and gone, Method Man has been watching. With the game hitting an all-time low in the opinion of critics, Method Man has offered his opinion. Like the rest of the veterans, Meth is saddened by the lack of lyrical ability. Method Man said the new artists in the game are more worried about the way they dress instead of the way they rap.

Method Man said a lot of the new rappers are more like "fashionistas."

Redman disses 2011 hip hop

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Redman has been hailed by many as one of the most lyrical rappers of all-time. Despite being a member of Def Squad, he rose to fame through his partnership with Method Man. The two are respected as one of the top hip hop duos of all-time.

Rap music has been on a rapid decline, according to critics, over the past few years. Many rappers have voiced their opinion on the state of the industry. While he has held his tongue for years, Redman has finally given his opinion.

In the past, many rap songs sampled older music. But, many fans of older music and the people who created it said hip hop was unoriginal. As a result of the criticism, hip hop has focused more on original beats over the past few years.

Redman said hip hop has become anal since they stopped sampling music. He blames the ending of the sampling on the overexposure of hip hop. For years, hip hop has been in the shadows of music, but with the internet revolution, it has risen to the forefront.

Redman officially joins the Wu Tang Clan

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

For years, Redman has associated himself with Method Man. While they made a legendary duo, Redman was a part of the Def Squad and Method Man was a part of the Wu Tang Clan. Despite two crews being involved, everyone accepted the partnership. The Def Squad has been closely affiliated with the Wu Tang Clan for years.

Recently, however, Def Squad has accepted Method Man as an official member of the crew. In return, Redman confirmed he was now an official member of the Wu Tang Clan. But, after Redman made his confirmation, several online reports denied his claims. Because of the close affiliation, Red said the Wu made things official.

However, Redman has hit back and has called the websites who denied his membership a bunch of haters. Not only is Redman saying he is in the Wu Tang Clan, but Redman said he has been a part of the Wu now for five years. Years before, he was a close associate, wearing the Wu Gear and promoting them when he did his solo projects, but he has been on for years and now plans to push things more heavily.

ICP member claims Method Man at fault for concert attack

By Mark Thomas
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

At a recent concert festival titled "The Gathering of the Juggalos," Method Man and Tila Tequila were assaulted with bottles, rocks, and many other weapons as they tried to perform. Pictures of Tila have shown her with bruises all over her body, and multiple facial cuts. Method Man was also assaulted, performing onstage with Redman. Video has surfaced of a beer bottle smashing him on the side of the face. Method Man fully intends to take legal action in the matter. Extra credit goes to both Meth and Tila for continuing to perform, even after having been struck with multiple weapons and in some cases, disgusting items.

But now Violent J, of horrorcore rap group Insane Clown Posse, the group most associated with the fans known as 'juggalos,' has come out claiming that Meth is at fault for the attack. He says that the crowd was chanting about "family," a key word in the Juggalo mindset, as they view one another as family, and that Meth then yelled back "F**k family. It's all about hip-hop." Violent J claims that this is what evoked the attacks from the fans, as initially the fan base had only made clear their intent to attack Tila when she arrived on stage. Redman was apparently unharmed.

These attacks were outright despicable. Anyone who attends a concert with their sole intent to harm anyone performing should be punished to the full extent of the law. Let's hope enough video footage can be found from this concert that those culpable are punished to the full extent. Many "Juggalos" can be found on youtube bragging about the harm they caused. I hope they are sent a message that true music fans would never demonstrate such stupidity. Go buy yourself a drink if you are at a festival and don't care for a certain act. Show some human decency.
