Lil Wayne on Cory Gunz, Unreleased Young Money albums, and the Future

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

For the most part, Lil Wayne has proven all of his critics wrong. When he said he was the best rapper alive, most laughed. After the release of Tha Carter III, Lil Wayne said his Young Money crew would take the game over and the laughter continued.

But, before the end of 2009, he made everyone a believer and then unleashed Drake and Nicki Minaj. Despite their success, critics are beginning to say the rest of Young Money will not make it. Currently, Cory Gunz is riding the wave of "6 Foot 7 Foot."

Lil Wayne told fans not to expect any new music from the hot spitter anytime soon. Wayne said he is not going to force feed Cory Gunz because he is on a hot song. The goal is for him to become a bigger artist, so Lil Wayne said he would not risk turning Cory Gunz into a one hit wonder. Even though he has buzz, Lil Wayne feels is not ready at the moment.

While Young Money has released albums from Drake and Nicki Minaj, they have held back on many other artists signed to the label. This includes Jae Millz, Shannell, Lil' Twist, Mack Maine, and Gudda Gudda.

Lil Wayne thanks Young Money for Holding him Down

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Before heading to prison, earlier this year, Lil Wayne asked Drake to hold him down while he was gone. On the first single from his debut album, Thank Me Later, "Over," Drake promised he would make sure the Young Money ship did not sink.

From March until November, he and Nicki Minaj did more than keep the label afloat. While Lil Wayne was gone, they took things to a higher level. Drake is easily the most-popular new male rapper in the game.

Nicki Minaj, on the other hand, has caught the hip hop world by storm. She is currently in the middle of a high-profile feud with veteran, Lil' Kim. Over the summer, Drake and Nicki Minaj got married, just as Drake said he would on "Miss Me."

Their marriage only lasted for one day, but it was antics like that which made Young Money more popular even when there was no new music coming from the camp. As Lil Wayne prepared to be released from prison, Nicki Minaj released her Pink Friday album and scored another hit with "Right Thru Me." Things are going better than even Lil Wayne had envisioned.

For all of the hard work put in while Lil Wayne did what he had to do, Weezy offers a thank you to his team and hopes they all continue to put forth the effort. At the start of summer, Drake released his debut album and Lil Wayne closed the summer with his I Am Not a Human Being album. Currently, Nicki Minaj is being pushed, as previously mentioned, her album was just released.

Gudda Gudda, another member of Young Money, spoke about his album. He hopes to have his project in stores sometime early next year. Following Gudda Gudda's release, Jae Millz hopes to finally be able to put out his debut album. With the new releases out of the way, Drake wants to put his second album out next year and Lil Wayne wants to close next year with the release of Tha Carter IV.

Nicki Minaj said it was incredible to see how the crew held things together while Lil Wayne was gone and now she cannot wait to see how they work now that he is out.

Jae Millz explains New Jersey arrest

Last week, Jae Millz attempted to prove that he had no hard feelings with XXL. He was headed to a New Jersey concert promoted by the magazine. The magazine was holding a concert for the rappers featured on their Freshmen 2010 cover. Despite not being featured on the cover, Jae Millz decided to perform, anyway. Being from Harlem, he was in store for an hour-long drive.

However, before he could make it to the concert, it was revealed that Jae Millz had been arrested. It was said that he was pulled over by the police. Upon being pulled over, Jae Millz was caught driving without a license. But, many people wondered why the police would stop Millz out of all of the people on the highway. The Young Money rapper has provided more insight to what actually happened.

Jae Millz said that the reason that he was pulled over was because he was speeding. Not only was he speeding, but the rapper was also on the phone. Both of those offenses have become very serious crimes because of the high car accident rate across the nation. Then, this was added to the fact that he made an illegal turn. When he was asked for his license and registration and he had no license, Millz had the chance to spend time behind bars.

Jae Millz misses XXL Freshmen Concert with Cam'ron and Vado

Despite his public issues with XXL and their Freshmen 2010 cover, Jae Millz was going to make peace. He had planned to join Cam'ron and Vado in a performance sponsored by the magazine. The concert was held in New Jersey and Jae Millz was going to drive there to begin the performance.

Still living in Harlem, New York, it was only a two-hour drive for him to arrive in New Jersey. But, as soon as he got out of the state, Millz was stopped by the police. In what was a routine traffic check ended with the rapper behind bars. For two hours, Jae Millz was in jail because of driving without a license.

Jae Millz told the story earlier today through Nicki Minaj's Ustream channel and on Twitter. He said that the officers even got a little smart with him. When he told them that he was a rapper, they jokingly asked if he was Juelz Santana. He said that they also made fun of his attire.

J. Cole talks Memphis Bleek and Jae Millz

A native from Fayetteville, North Carolina, for the past three years, J. Cole has been with Jay-Z. Even when Jay was still a part of Roc-A-Fella Records, he was acting as a sidekick to Jay-Z. In 2008, Jay-Z had left his Roc-A-Fella label to create Roc Nation. The first artist signed to Roc Nation was J. Cole.

Early in Jay-Z's career, he signed Memphis Bleek as one of the first artists to Roc-A-Fella. For the next few years, Bleek would become the sidekick to Jay-Z. In the time since Roc Nation was created, Bleek has become the leader of his own team. Jay-Z was awarded a new sidekick in J. Cole. Despite the comparisons, Cole said that it does not matter who he signed in the past, he is the present.

Recently, J. Cole was featured on XXL magazine's cover that featured the rising rappers of 2010. One rapper that was left off of the list was Jae Millz. The rapper has been trying to release his debut album for the past six years. In the process of trying to create music, he left his original label of Wanna Blow for the bright lights of Young Money. Because he was left off of the list of the rising rappers, Jae Millz dissed the magazine and every other rapper on the list. Many people wanted J. Cole to step into this battle, he has spoken about Jae Millz and his comments. J. Cole said that he cannot control what Jae Millz says and he will not end up feuding with him over the matter.

Later this year, J. Cole plans to release his debut album through Roc Nation and Sony Records.
