Juelz Santana talks Diplomats reunion and New Album

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

What may have been more surprising than The Diplomats breaking up was likely their reunion. When the crew split, Cam'ron tried, several times, to reconcile. Each time he reached out, Jim Jones refused to hear it. In 2009, Cam'ron made his official comeback and Jim Jones wanted to reunite.

Cam'ron, at this point, was done with the feud and focused on his business ventures. Before the end of 2009, Cam'ron and Jim Jones reunited and Diplomat Records was back. By 2010, the members were completing their obligations to land an exclusive distribution deal.

Diplomat Records, including all the Dipset members, landed with Interscope Records. Irv Gotti later revealed he helped the crew land this deal. For over a year, The Diplomats have been signed to Interscope Records. For over two years, they have been reunited. With all this, fans have remained patiently waiting on their Diplomatic Immunity 3.

Juelz Santana recently discussed this, saying all the individual members are currently working on new solo albums. However, they do not want to rush their group project. They have started working on the new album, but they are not going to force things on the new album.

Lil Wayne talks Future "Carter" albums, and music with Juelz Santana and Young Money

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

When Lil Wayne released Tha Carter, not too many people believed he could take over the rap game. Fresh off Jay-Z's retirement, hip hop was looking for a new focal point. Lil Wayne boldly rose to the occasion on his "Bring it Back" single. On the song, Wayne raps "best rapper alive, since the best rapper retired."

Tha Carter was met with positive reviews and spawned Lil Wayne's first top ten hit, "Go DJ." A year later, Lil Wayne returned with his critically-acclaimed Tha Carter II. Following that release, Wayne took a three year hiatus, doing constant features and mixtapes. In 2008, Lil Wayne returned with Tha Carter III.

Many assumed Tha Carter III would be Lil Wayne's final album of the Carter series. Only months following the release of his third album in the series, Lil Wayne announced he was working on a remix album. Initially, he said the album would be called Tha Carter III: The Rebirth. Later, Lil Wayne revealed it would be a separate album and would not be a part of the Carter series. After numerous delays, Lil Wayne finally released Rebirth.

Before the release of Tha Carter IV, Lil Wayne announced he would soon be retiring. Wayne had made similar statements in the past. Because he wants to spend time with his children, Lil Wayne confirmed he was nearing the end of his career. Caught in the moment, Lil Wayne said Tha Carter IV may very well be his final album. Recently, Lil Wayne discussed this and announced he has so much more left in the tank, with at least four new albums on the way.

For those who guessed Tha Carter IV would be Lil Wayne's final Carter album, they guessed wrong, as the New Orleans rapper revealed he has at least two more Carters on the way. Aside from the continuation of his Carter series, Lil Wayne also said he has a sequel to Rebirth planned. Speaking of sequels, Wayne is also joining Young Money again for a second edition of their We Are Young Money album. In 2006, it was announced that Lil Wayne and Juelz Santana were coming together for an album.

However, for unknown reasons, this album has been held up for five years. Lil Wayne confirmed their album will be coming. Mack Maine confirmed his Juelz Santana-assisted I Can't Feel My Face will be his next release.

Montana Tripp da Boss talks Current Hip Hop, His Record Label, and Reality Show

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

One of the biggest underground artists in the game is Montana Tripp da Boss. Now the head of his own company, DS Trini Ent., Montana has new projects in the works. From the background, he has been watching the game unfold.

Montana Tripp da Boss is now ready to move to the forefront of the game. He has watched long enough and now he wants his turn. Not only his turn, but it also his crew's turn. Montana is on the hip hop takeover movement.

Recently, Montana Tripp da Boss teamed up with one of the biggest DJs in the South, Justin Kase and he is now making major moves. Montana Tripp da Boss is a Brooklyn, New York native, but he is receiving plenty of Dirty South love. Now, Montana is working on several projects, including a surprise and Hip Hop Vibe had the chance to talk with him about the projects.

What was it like growing up in Brooklyn?
It was great, had fun, rolling with crews. We repped hard and had fun.

Before living in Brooklyn, you were in Trinidad?
Yeah. Basically, it's an island, like Jamaica and others. It is a great island. Just like any other island, it was lovely and nice, it's home, the hood. There was no better place for me to grow up. Rude boys and dons.

How has the Trinidad influence helped mold your music?
It influenced it because Trinidad is in me. I started off doing Reggae in Calypso. There will always be a bit of Trinidad in my music because I was born on that island. It is also home to one of my relatives, who is the legendary Scrunter de Hunter Calypso King, so the talent is in the family. We're brining that island seasoning into hip hop for the people to enjoy.

Growing up, with rappers inspried you?
Biggie Smalls, Tupac, Eazy-E (the NWA family), Jay-Z, KRS-One, everyone in hip hop who actually paved the way for me to enter the game as the great artist I am today. If it wasn't for them, hip hop may have been over a long time ago. Now, I will become one of the people who helped save hip hop and kept it going.

Speaking of saving hip hop, how do you feel about the current state of it?
I feel, right now, hip hop is in a state of emergency. Right now, they need a doctor to perform emergency surgery and I feel I have the talent to do just that. Back in the days, artists would get together and hip hop was about something. Now, hip hop is only about the money, hip hop just isn't the same anymore. The good artists are irrelevant and the ones who would have been irrelevant are. But, I'm here to take it back over.

The month of August has been good for hip hop, though, with releases from Jay-Z, Kanye West, Game, and Lil Wayne, how do you feel about their releases?
Really, I've not been paying much attention. My focus has been on my projects. I have heard songs from them I like, when I listen to other music. But, for the most part, hip hop will need more than just those artists and now I'm focused on bringing things back. Those four artists, alone, cannot bring hip hop back, because hip hop is about everyone getting the treatment they deserve. As far as them, I have nothing but love for them, they have done incredible things for the game.

Tell us a little bit about your DS Trini Ent. movement.
DS Trini is a label, named after my home country, I made to represent me and what I came from. I started this label a long time ago, over ten years ago. The label was created to represent me, my team, and what we have going on. Now, the company is out there and the people have heard about us. We have artists and producers, distribution, the full team and we're in the studio, now, griding.

Expand on your Hip Hop Takeover statement.
Hip Hop Takeover is self-explanatory. We're coming as a team to take over hip hop, because it is in a state of emergency. The people who are running hip hop are the reason hip hop is in this current state. I have people in the streets, people in the industry, and we're coming together to save hip hop because it is dying fast.

So, you have projects going with Brick Squad?
Yeah, my homie Murder Baby hit me up. I was on one of his DJs' radio station playing my song with Juelz Santana. Murder Baby gave me a song, which became "My Block," I did my verse and we shot the video, which we are still waiting on to come out.

What was it like working with Juelz Santana?
It was great, everybody knows him as a superstar and it was a great chance for me to showcase my talents alongside a bonafide superstar. It was an opportunity to introduce myself to people who have never heard of Montana Tripp da Boss. All of those who didn't know me, know me now.

Aside from working with Dipset, you have also worked with Wu-Tang?
Correct. The first record I did was with Dungeon Masta, called "Put You Up on Game." We did the song and the people began liking it. From there, I worked with former Wu-Tang, G Tee Shoutta, and our song is called "Hold On." The song also features Dana Dane's artist Eleven. I grew up listening to these dudes and I was honored to work with Wu-Tang. God gave me the blessing to reach out to those guys. It was a great opportunity for me.

Outside of music, what other projects do you have going on?
I'm actually co-starring in this movie called Throw Away Pistol. I am doing business ventures, I am teaming up with Hip Hop Vibe and we have major things coming out. We even have a reality show coming out and I am working on a book. I am working on a movie of my life and getting into the film scene, spending time with my family and kids, loving life.

Can you tell us more about your book?
The book is about my life, a biography, how I came from a family of six, moving from Trinidad to America and getting into the music. At the same time, I was in love with the streets and it held me back from showing my talents to the world. But, I can't give it all away because I want the people to check the book out. The book will be called My Life, however. The story of how Montana Tripp da Boss went from negative to positive.

How did you get invovled in the Throw Away Pistol movie?
I always had a passion for acting, that is one of my secrets. My life is like a movie, so it was not a stretch for me to position myself for a movie role. I hired photographers and got professional pictures made and I linked up with agents. I ran into some old friends working on a movie, I auditioned and landed the role of a man from Trinidad.

So, will all of this be detailed in your reality show?
Yeah, everything should be. We have so much going on and everything the company feels will bring a positive shine will make the reality show, but I can't tell you what will be on there, scene-by-scene. What I do know is that you will like the reality show, because it is history in the making. Viewers get to se my personal rise to the top.

How did you link up with Hip Hop Vibe?
Actually, me and the homie we were Facebook friends and I thought he was Webbie's brother. Shout out to the Savage Life team. I thought he was Webbie's brother, but he wasn't, but we had similar goals and now we are giving the world a Montana Tripp da Boss reality show through Hip Hop Vibe. The rest is history.

Anyone you would like to shout out?
Everybody out there who supports my movement. My family, fans, thank God for waking me up every day and allowing me to stay relevant and keeping me grounded. Shout out to all the artists I have done songs with Lauryn Hill, Calico Jonez, Dungeon Masta, Juelz Santana, Eleven, Justin Kase, Team BGM, shout out to the kids, and everybody, free my cousin Head, Brick Squad, Murder Baby, and the list goes on. Everybody who shows me love from all over the world, I want to shout you out.

Ja Rule talks about Upcoming Prison Sentence

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Even though he has been the most dominant rapper in the game, setting records, Ja Rule's best time came when he was with his family. The side of Ja Rule no one had the chance to see was his wife and two children. Despite what he raps about, this is what really counts to Rule.

Four years ago, Ja Rule began putting his comeback together. Rule linked up with Lil Wayne and they recorded the "Uhh Ohhh!" single. The song was poised to become a hit when the label suddenly halted promotion. Ja Rule's comeback was derailed and he was left out in the cold.

In the middle of his comeback attempt, Ja Rule was arrested, alongside Lil Wayne. The two were in Harlem filming the video for "Uhh Ohhh!." Following the video shoot, they performed alongside Juelz Santana and Kanye West. After the show, both rappers began smoking marijuana and were both caught by the police protection and taken into custody.

Lil Wayne finished his prison sentence back in November and Ja Rule starts his in June. The only difference is Rule will have to serve two years. When his sentence ends, he will go on trial again and will likely spend another two years in prison for tax evasion. Rule will miss even more time from the game, but most importantly, he will miss his daughter graduating from high school and two years away from his family. That is what hurts Ja Rule the most, not the moves he will lose in his career.

Jim Jones talks Dr. Dre, Diplomats reunion, and New Music

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Following the way Jim Jones and Cam'ron treated each other for nearly two years, it shocked fans when they reunited. Early in 2007, a feud erupted between Cam'ron and 50 Cent. Cam'ron's crew, which includes Jim Jones and Juelz Santana, ended up taking sides and they sided with 50 Cent.

Cam'ron spent one year away from the spotlight while Jim Jones began dissing Cam'ron. Late in 2008, Cam'ron returned with a new outlook on life. His tone changed, now focusing solely on making more money. Cam'ron even reached out to Jay-Z, understanding where he comes from and respecting his hustle.

Reunited, the Diplomats raised more eyebrows when they landed a distribution deal with Interscope Records. Their move comes right after 50 Cent left Interscope on bad terms. Now, Cam'ron reaps the benefits of trading lyrics with Eminem over Dr. Dre beats. Jim Jones recently discussed working with the rejuvenated doctor.

Jones said he, along with Cam'ron and Juelz Santana, have recorded several songs produced by Dr. Dre. He joked of how Dre does not trust him with their beats. After recording the songs, Dr. Dre has taken the songs and is keeping them to himself until the albums are ready. Jones said Dr. Dre is a teacher in the studio, helping him pronounce his words better to perfect the rhyme. Jim Jones said they were immediately linked up with Dr. Dre and Eminem when the contracts were signed.

Speaking on Cam'ron, Jones announced he would appear on "Getting to the Money," a single off his upcoming Capo album. The Capo release will be Jim Jones' final independent release. His Interscope debut will be released on the 4th of July. Jones said he returned to E1 because if his deal with Sony did not turn out right, he was contractually obligated to record his next album with E1. Plus, Jim Jones did better numbers with then-Koch Records, than he did on Columbia Records.

Lady Luck talks Remy Ma's prison sentence

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Behind bars, Remy Ma had been forgotten by most of the fans in the hip hop community. In the middle of Lil' Kim and Nicki Minaj trading insults, many forgot about the woman who kept a female voice in the game in between Kim and Nicki. But, Remy Ma has made news as she fights to get out of prison.

Juelz Santana gave her props for doing what most men cannot even do, serve hard time in prison. Santana says there are many rappers who claim to be tough. While they claim to be tough, very few of them have served time like Remy Ma has. Lil Wayne and T.I. had high profile sentences, but they were out within a year.

Lady Luck is the latest person to discuss Remy Ma's prison sentence and she is also supporting her. She knows Remy Ma is a very strong woman because of her own experiences. By no means is Lady Luck weak, but when she served 110 days in prison, she felt as if she was going to die. Remy Ma has been in prison for over three years and she is still fighting and still in her right mind.

Juelz Santana gives Remy Ma credit

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

With Lil' Kim and Nicki Minaj taking over the newsfeeds, many have overlooked Remy Ma. During the time before Nicki Minaj debuted and when Lil' Kim had legal troubles, Remy Ma held down the female rap game. But, when she landed in her own legal trouble, Remy Ma was sent to prison.

For four years, Remy Ma has been in prison and her songs are hardly even played on the radio anymore. While Remy Ma has been in prison, other artists' prison bids have been highly publicized. T.I. only served seven months, as did Lil Wayne. But, every step of the way, they were documented.

Recently, Juelz Santana has been having trouble with the law enforcement. He discussed Remy Ma and her troubles and he praised her. Juelz feels Remy Ma is actually tougher than most men, as she has served four years straight in prison and is still fighting to be released. Every step of the way, Santana is pulling for her release and he praised her for maintaining her sanity while behind bars.

Juelz Santana confirms Interscope Records move

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

The Diplomats have been spending quite a bit of time with Dr. Dre, as he is helping them with their new music. Their work with hip hop's doctor comes after 50 Cent called Cam'ron a good guy. Four years ago, the two were embroiled in beef after 50 dissed their former distributor, Koch Records.

50 Cent was still riding the wave of his first two albums and was the top priority at Interscope Records. But, after the low sales of his next album, 50 Cent intended to leave the label. Over the summer, he did just that. 50 Cent now has a new distribution deal with EMI Records, which is only a notch about Koch.

Juelz Santana, a member of Diplomat Records, recently announced they would be signing to Interscope. In order to fill the void of 50 Cent, Jimmy Iovine has been recruiting. Cam'ron has great chemistry with Dr. Dre and he has the right type of talent Iovine can help expand upon. Now under a secure deal with Interscope Records, Santana said to expect new releases coming soon.

Juelz Santana's studio raided by Police

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Skull Gang rapper, Juelz Santana is back in the news, but not because of his new music. His studio was raided by the NYPD and the officers found guns and marijuana in the studio. Not only did the police discover guns and illegal drugs, but his artist, Hynief, was arrested in the middle of the mayhem.

Hynief has been in trouble with the NYPD before. Last summer, on two accounts, he sold illegal drugs to undercover officers. Hynief was in the studio when the raid took place. Also found were two fully loaded 9 mm pistols. The rapper was arrested for the guns and 17 bags of what seemed to be high-grade marijuana.

Bail has been set for the rapper at $50,000. Juelz Santana has missed performances because of the arrest. He missed a major performance alongside Twista. Juelz Santana issued an apology via Twitter for missing the performance, but he announced that Hynief did make bail.

Cam'ron talks about Jim Jones and Juelz Santana

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

After nearly three years of feuding, The Diplomats have been reunited and they are glad about that. Cam'ron was ousted from his own group early in 2007. Early in the year, Cam'ron began feuding with 50 Cent and his group-mates sided with 50 Cent.

In the time he spent away, Cam'ron built another crew. Despite their feuds, Cam'ron, Juelz Santana, and Jim Jones all remained a part of Diplomat Records. But, they each ran their own sub-division of the label.

Last year, the trio reunited and they have been inseparable ever since. Cam'ron recently spoke about his relationship with both of his partners. Cam said he is glad to be on the same side with them again.

Cam'ron also went on to say they are pumping out tons of new music. He admitted to the people that Jim Jones and Juelz Santana are studio rats. They hardly ever take time off when they go into the studio. When it comes to recording, they spend hours at the time making their new music. Cam'ron said the next Diplomats album should be released sometime before the end of this year. After going through what they have been through, Cam'ron said to expect a classic.

Album Review: Lloyd Banks - "H.F.M. 2 (The Hunger for More)"

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Four long years have passed since the last time a new album came from Lloyd Banks. Following a weak effort in 2006 with Rotten Apple, Banks had to prove himself. It was after his album release that the G-Unit movement began to fall off.

Because the Banks release signaled the end of a big moneymaker, Interscope Records never gave him a solid release date. Last year, Lloyd Banks had enough and left the label. After leaving Interscope, he returned to the mixtape scene.

Long before G-Unit made it into the mainstream, they dominated the New York mixtape scene. As a soldier for G-Unit, Lloyd Banks was one of the most popular mixtape rappers in the years before G-Unit exploded onto the charts. In need of a boost, he returned to his grind and built a following.

Early this year, Lloyd Banks recorded the mixtape single, "Beamer, Benz, or Bentley." While the song was catchy, no one expected it to become the hit it has become. The song was so popular that 50 Cent decided to have Lloyd Banks release an album. 50 Cent used the popularity of this song to market G-Unit to a new label. Throughout the summer, there were rumors of the label heading to Def Jam, but in the end, EMI agreed to distribute the next few releases from G-Unit Records.

With a solid record deal behind him, Lloyd Banks recorded an album to support his hit single. The feeling he had when he went in the studio was hunger. Six years ago, Lloyd Banks was so excited as he put together his debut album and he simply wanted more. Despite being a veteran in the game, Banks still wanted more and to take things back. This was the reason he ended up naming his album The Hunger for More 2. Not only was it a return to his rawness, but it was a return to the hunger he did not have on Rotten Apple.

As more songs were released from the album, anticipiation built for the new release. Lloyd Banks promised he would not let the fans down with this album. Banks felt as if he really had to come through for his fans because he has been overshadowed by Kanye West and Nicki Minaj. In an effort to push the creativity, he decided to feature West on the album. Unlike his other two albums, H.F.M. 2 (The Hunger for More) is star-studded with appearances from Ryan Leslie and Juelz Santana.

Lloyd Banks hoped to prove he could handle himself with other heavy-hitters by collaborating with so many artists. What time Banks was heard on the album, he held his own, but the album comes off as more of a compilation because more of other artists are heard instead of Lloyd Banks, himself. But, every artist on this album came with their best, including Banks. Because of this, the album is still very good, but it appears more as a compilation instead of a solo release.

The album was filled with verses from other artists, but Lloyd Banks held fans down, even after being overshadowed on his "Beamer, Benz, or Bentley" by Juelz Santana. The Hunger for More 2 is definitely a good album and worth the listen.

Juelz Santana shocked by Dipset's Kanye diss

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Not even back together for a year and the Diplomats are already back on their game. Before their ugly breakup, the trio were known for making disses for Jay-Z. Most of their disses, aside from the ones made by Jim Jones, were ignored. But, after being in his shoes, Cam'ron decided to stop insulting Jay-Z.

After hearing the latest diss, even Juelz Santana was shocked. He was not shocked by the Jay-Z diss, but the line aimed at Kanye West. At times, Jim Jones took shots at Kanye, but Cam'ron never had anything negative to say about him. Mainly looking to work with more artists, Juelz Santana never dissed Kanye, either.

With things being cool for the past two years, Juelz Santana had reached out to Kanye West. Due to both rappers being a part of Def Jam, West agreed to feature him on his album. Santana had informed both Jim Jones and Cam'ron of the deal and they did not stop him from doing the collaboration. But, after they learned about the collaboration, they still went ahead and dissed Kanye.

Despite the verbal deal Juelz Santana made with Kanye West, he does not know if his record with West will make Dark Twisted Fantasy.

Cam'ron excited about Dipset reunion

Following his departure from Roc-A-Fella Records, Cam'ron had created the Dipset movement. For a little while, it appeared as if he were going to take over the game. Cam'ron had a strong following with his Killa Season album and he had a great team around him. But, Cam'ron would disappear for no apparent reason in 2007.

Early in the year, he and 50 Cent began feuding and Jim Jones, his partner, and Juelz Santana, his protege, took sides with 50 Cent. Still, they said there were no hard feelings between themselves and Cam'ron. Cam would come out of hiding in 2008 and had nothing good to say about his crew. In 2009, he revealed he spoke with Jim Jones.

This was something Jim Jones denied and Cam'ron soon was glad they were no longer a crew. Initially, he hoped Dipset would reunite, but Jim Jones said this would never happen. Soon, Juelz Santana wanted a reunion, but Cam said he would never reunite with Jones. He said he would, however, record with Satana. But, this was only if he would get himself off of drugs. Juelz Santana denied ever being on drugs and wanted to diss Cam'ron. The only reason he did not was because of the start he got from Cam'ron.

In the end, all of these hard feelings were out of the window when Cam'ron and Jim Jones ended their feud and got back to work. Now, with their album planned for next year, Cam'ron spoke on the reunion with his old crew. He still has plans of breaking his new guys into the game, but there is nothing like the people he came in the game with. Recently, Cam'ron spoke on the project and he said he is excited to be back in the studio with Jim Jones and Juelz Santana.

Juelz Santana approves Dipset reunion

Throughout his career, Juelz Santana has been an afterthought that was caught in the middle of multiple situations. He came into the game when he was featured on Cam'ron's 2002 hit, "Oh Boy." The song and his appearance in the video made him into a rising star. But, Santana was not the focus of Diplomat Records, Cam'ron was.

After being labeled as Cam'ron's sidekick, Juelz Santana became a star in his own right in 2005. He seemed poised to take over the game when Cam'ron had a falling out with Jay-Z. Not only was Jay-Z the owner of Roc-A-Fella Records, but he was also the boss at Def Jam. Because of the disrespect from Jim Jones and Cam'ron, Juelz lost.

When Jay-Z focused his energy back to his own music, it appeared as if Juelz Santana could finally become a star. But, just as he began working on his next album, Jim Jones and Cam'ron began feuding and Juelz was stuck in the middle. Deep down, he wanted the feud to end, but he was forced to side with Jim Jones.

Feeling disrespected by the man he helped bring into the game, Cam'ron accused Juelz Santana of being addicted to drugs. This is something that Juelz Santana continues to deny, but even as he deined it, he said that he would never go against Cam'ron. Instead, he said that he would love to reunite with him. Earlier in the year, Cam'ron made a similar statement that was panned by Jim Jones. Because of this, Cam'ron pronounced that the Dipset movement was dead.

More words were exchanged before Cam'ron and Jim Jones decided to reunite. Jones said the decision was made because they missed each other. Cam said that the money was right. Regardless of why they came back together, Juelz Santana was glad that it happened. When asked if he approved of the reunion between his friends, Jim Jones and Cam'ron, Juelz Santana admitted just how excited he was about their decision to come back together. The new album should come before Christmas.
