French Montana recruits Diddy and T.I. for "Shot Caller (remix)"

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

While other rappers are calling themselves the "King of New York," French Montana is actively making it happen. This year, he has experienced much success with his "Shot Caller" single. The song has become one of the most-played radio singles in New York City.

French Montana recently completed the video for his popular single. The video will feature cameos from several of the hottest rappers in the game. Fat Joe, Diddy, Busta Rhymes, and N.O.R.E. appear in the video. The "Shot Caller" video is expected to do just as well as the actual song has.

Before the video for the original track has been released, there are already bigger things in the works. French Montana has the remix of "Shot Caller" in the works. The remix will feature Diddy, who was previously mentioned, and T.I. French Montana credits DJ Drama for being the man who made this happen.

DJ Drama's favorite song, right now, is French Montana's "Shot Caller." When he learned French Montana was going to remix the track, DJ Drama wanted to see if T.I. wanted to be on it. French Montana said he guessed T.I. was asking Drama what were the hottest records to get on. With "Shot Caller" being a favorite of DJ Drama's obviously he pointed Tip in French Montana's direction. While the remix is going to be major, it will not be released for a couple of months.

The original "Shot Caller" track has done well, growing from the underground scene to getting radio play on both Hot 97 and Power 105. Despite the success of "Shot Caller," French Montana is holding off on his debut album until he decides who to sign with. French Montana has been courted by Diddy, who is also his new collaborator, and Rick Ross. However, he does have projects in the works with Waka Flocka Flame and Three 6 Mafia.

Styles P talks Lloyd Banks collaboration [VIDEO]

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

On his Master of Ceremonies album, Styles P officially established himself as the grittiest rapper in the game. He did not accomplish this feat alone, recruiting the likes of Busta Rhymes and Lloyd Banks, among others. Their contributions helped make Styles P's fourth album what it is.

Styles P said he is a fan of Lloyd Banks' music. Long before the feud between their camps, Styles P said he enjoyed Banks' music. However, when the feud began, Styles P did not have the chance to reach out to Lloyd Banks. But, when peace was established, in 2008, he reached out.

During his time in prison, Styles P said he listened to several mixtapes from Lloyd Banks. Listening to Lloyd Banks helped those long days go by a little faster. When he got out of prison, Styles P had the chance to meet Lloyd Banks and said he is really a cool guy. Another cool guy who has worked with Styles P is Rick Ross, who has issues with G-Unit.

Rampage announces Comeback Attempt

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Most likely, Rampage is known by many for his association with Busta Rhymes. Rampage was one of the earliest members of Flipmode Squad. The past few years have been tough for the crew. With Busta Rhymes making more moves for his own career, the Flipmode Squad has all but disbanded.

Rampage has been out of the spotlight for quite some time now. Recently, the rapper sat down with XXL.com and spoke about his new endeavors. Now living in Arizona, doing so for nearly three years, Rampage is recording a new album. The first single from his new album features T-Pain and is called "Motivated."

Because the song leaked to the DJs, Rampage decided to push it as his first single. After a positive reception of the song, Rampage began leaking more tracks for the people to hear. Rampage has two more records out, "Pump up the Volume" and "Ambush." Recording for the new album has taken place as Rampage goes back and forth from Brooklyn and Arizona. The Flipmode rapper said he decided to move to Arizona because he always enjoyed it out there and he also has family members there.

Aside from the music, Rampage also has a new cartoon and a clothing line in the works. As for his new album, it will be called The Ambush 2.0. When asked about Flipmode, Rampage said the group and label still exists and he is still a part of it. Regardless of how much time has passed, Rampage and Busta Rhymes still communicate and plan to work together again.

Busta Rhymes speaks on "Tha Carter IV"

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

On Tha Carter IV, Lil Wayne reached out to a couple of artists he had not worked with in a long time. Lil Wayne last worked with Busta Rhymes on Tha Carter III. With a three year gap in collaborations, Lil Wayne was able to land Busta Rhymes for the "Outro."

Busta Rhymes was excited to be a part of Tha Carter IV. With the album being the biggest hip hop album of 2011, Busta Rhymes knew he would benefit. However, Busta Rhymes had no idea how big of a role he would play on the album.

Usually, when an artist releases an album, they are the first and last voice a listener hears. The exception was on Jay-Z's Hard Knock Life album, when Memphis Bleek rapped the "Intro." A new exception is on Tha Carter IV when Busta Rhymes has the last verse on the "Outro," which is a posse cut.

Speaking on this, Busta Rhymes said he was surprised that the song ended that way. Busta Rhymes had no idea Lil Wayne was going to end the album in that manner. Because he, Nas, Shyne, and Lil Wayne did not record the track together, Busta Rhymes had no idea he would be at the very end.

David Banner speaks on "Tha Carter IV" and working with Lil Wayne

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

One of 2008's most-pleasant surprises was David Banner, who had been away for three years. David Banner returned to the game in shape and with a new state of mind. The music from Banner's 2008 released helped to redefine Southern hip hop.

David Banner also formed an alliance with Lil Wayne during this time. Banner produced the popular song, "La La," featuring Brisco and Busta Rhymes. For his own album, he even sampled Lil Wayne's "Lollipop" for his "Shawty Say" single.

Three years later, Tha Carter IV is in the works. Following the success of his last Carter album, Lil Wayne has called upon Banner again. David Banner will be producing a new track for Lil Wayne in the near future and he said he hopes it will become the next single off the album. His last song, "La La," built a large following, but was not officially released to radio.

David Banner said he has a select number of tracks he holds for Lil Wayne only. Banner compared Wayne to current NBA superstar, Kobe Bryant, because of their similar competitive natures. Both are considered among the best in their respective arenas.

Album Preview: Lil Wayne - "Tha Carter IV"

By The Voice
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

There has been talk of Tha Carter IV almost immediately following the release of Tha Carter III. Lil Wayne said he wanted to release an experimental album following his triple platinum success. This album would become Rebirth, but was preceeded by his collaboration album introducing Young Money.

Tha Carter IV was initially intended to be released in 2009, but was pushed back until 2010. However, Lil Wayne had to serve a prison sentence in 2010. To hold fans over, Wayne instead delivered with another album, I Am Not a Human Being. The album featured tracks originally intended to be a part of Tha Carter IV.

Towards the end of 2010, fans received their first glimpse of Tha Carter IV with the first single, "6 Foot 7 Foot." The song marked the end of the feud between Lil Wayne and Bangladesh and was dubbed "A Milli" on steroids. "6 Foot 7 Foot" became the first true hit of 2011 and showed off Lil Wayne and Cory Gunz' lyrical ability. Even when the second single, "John (If I Die Today)" with Rick Ross, was released and became a hit, "6 Foot 7 Foot" was still dominating the radio.

If the first three singles, "6 Foot 7 Foot," "John (If I Die Today)," and "How to Love," are any indication, listeners are in store for one of the most-creative albums of the past few years. Already, there is an incredible mix of different genres placed onto one hip hop album. On each of the songs presented, Lil Wayne displays his lyrical prowess and creative abilities. Upcoming singles from the album will be the Drake-assisted single, "She Will."

Track listing

  1. "Intro"
  2. "Blunt Blowin"
  3. "MegaMan"
  4. "6 Foot 7 Foot" (ft. Cory Gunz)
  5. "Nightmares Of The Bottom"
  6. "She Will" (ft. Drake)
  7. "How To Hate" (ft. T-Pain)
  8. "Interlude" (ft. Tech N9ne)
  9. "John" (ft. Rick Ross)
10. "Abortion"
11. "So Special" (ft. John Legend)
12. "How To Love"

Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

With Tha Carter IV coming out in a little over a month, Lil Wayne is putting the finishing touches on his album. After doing an experimental album, an album with Young Money, and an album of leftover tracks, Lil Wayne is releasing the album he wanted out years ago. Tha Carter IV intends to pick up where his previous Carter, III, left off.

Already on the album, Lil Wayne has enlisted Busta Rhymes, Cee Lo, Tech N9ne, Bun B, John Legend, and Will.i.am. Now, several of New York's finest have been added to the track listing. Lil Wayne will be teaming up with some of the greatest rappers of all-time for a posse cut for Tha Carter IV. Teaming up with Nas, Shyne, and Jadakiss, Lil Wayne is working on a classic track.

By The Hip Hop Writer
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Busta Rhymes has used his voice to make money over the past twenty years. Those who truly follow Busta Rhymes know he has a special way with words. But, this gift may have turned into a curse, recently.
